Does anyone have bantams that lay all winter?

My silly ladies are still laying!

They are New Hampshire bantams. Cinnamon hasn't stopped at all, an egg every other day, since she started in August. Nutmeg has her on and offs, but will still do a few eggs a week. Ginger did a few over Christmas, but isn't very regular.

We have a Brown Leghorn bantam that laid her first egg since August yesterday Mullethunter. She was rather ill (long story) and then moulted, which is why she didn't lay through early Winter. Her egg was 54 grammes, which is pretty good for a bantam I think. Her 'mothers' laid all year, but they do only lay for two years and then the eggs have run out. White Leghorn bantams used to be very popular because they took up little space and produced a lot of eggs for relatively little feed. Downside is, being a Mediterranean breed, they don't like cold weather so much below zero and they will need heat.

Mullethunter - I've kept pekins since April 2011 and without fail, they've always stopped laying around September and haven't started again until around mid-Feb.

This year, Lavinia laid her first egg at the beginning of December and now 3 of them are laying regularly so we're getting enough eggs to not have to buy them. Don't know why. Mild weather? And maybe if one starts, it's catching?! :)
