Groovychook
We've just had the police come down our quiet country track to inform us that they are hunting two fugitives who are thought to be very close by There are helicopters circling overhead, scanning up and down the valley. Apparently, this pair abandoned their car further up the valley and have swum a mile up the river... rather them than me! We are keeping our eyes peeled as we look out on some woods that lead down to the river. It's only a short walk away. We've been told not to open the door to anyone. Alis girls
Ooh stay safe and have a gun or a cosh handy. Hope they catch them. We have this too as we back onto a dual carriage way which hoodlums abdonon their cars and then try and escape over gardens.
Groovychook
I've got my rolling pin at the ready It's so quiet here though, nothing like this ever happens around us. They are going to be absolutely freezing... the temperature has really dropped at night time recently. Hope they don't try and bunk up with the chooks in the run
soapdragon
Wow, how dramatic! Do you know what they actually did to be 'on the run'? Hope they catch them soon...mind you the fugitives might go down with hypothermia first!
Groovychook
I've no idea what they've done, are capable of or where they've come from It's pitch black outside now, so we've shut the curtains, which we never normally bother doing, the doors are locked and we're hoping that they've been rounded up or will be soon. It's definitely OH's turn to take the dog out for a pee at bedtime!
Valkyrie
They've probably turned to chunks of ice after that swim! Not pleasant for you at all. Hope it's all sorted now.
Daphne
Please let us know you are still here
Groovychook
Yes, I'm still here! All quiet now, just the odd helicopter flying over. Not sure if they've been apprehended or if they've moved the search on elsewhere. Nothing on the local news tonight. I'll have to go and ask the neighbours in the morning if they know what happened. The Dogmother
Wow, that sounds exciting, do let us know what transpires. I hope that you let the dog out if you heard any noises outside. We had the police chopper circling overhead the other evening, drove the dogs mad as it was so close A few months back, the air ambulance landed in the park at the bottom of our road to attend to an accident. I went racing down to see it as I know one of the pilots for the police/air ambulance choppers, but it wasn't him.
Groovychook
I've no idea what has happened or if it's still taking place. No frozen/bedraggled bodies emerging from the fringes of the wood It's very quiet, no helicopters and no traffic. We can normally hear distant cars on the road at the top of the hill but not a dicky bird this morning. In fact that's all we can hear! I'm presuming that it's safe to go out and about- we're due at the school fete this morning. I might get to hear an update whilst we're there! mullethunter
Blimey groovychook didn't hear anything about that. Which river is it? They're all about 12 degrees at the moment...
Groovychook
The River Inny. I knew it would be cold and what with the temperatures dropping at night, they must have been frozen. Sill nothing on the news about it
Alis girls
Glad you got thro the night ok. I have an old cricket bat by the front door in case needed. Rolling pins are good too. Roll em to death.
mullethunter
That's a chilly river too having its headwaters on the moors. Rather them than me - it's cold enough in waders! Serves them right - hope they got them. It'd be good if the police came back to let you know really so you can stop worrying.

Having put the fear of God into people and warned them I think it would be totally in order for the police to update you and at least let you know there was nothing to worry about any more....they wouldn't have to give anything away, just reassure you! Groovychook
We've not heard anything from the police. I'm not sure what we should do. It's disconcerting because we live in a fairly isolated spot. There's no comfort blanket of having lots of other people around us. Maybe I'll make a call to the local police station although with all the cuts, there's probably no one there to answer the call
soapdragon
Should the police not have apprehended the fugitives (gosh, that sounds dramatic ) and felt that there may be any sort of risk they would prob have come back to you but, if I were you, I'd call anyway for peace of mind! Does anyone else locally know anything!
Groovychook
No, we're all in the dark. I haven't heard any helicopters since late this morning so I'm thinking that they must have caught them. I don't want to make a fuss but it would be nice to know for sure... The Dogmother
Call the non-urgent number - 101 - if you need an answer.
Groovychook
Thanks DM, will do. Our neighbours seem to feel happy that it would appear to have blown over but I have to say that I'd feel reassured to have an answer. It's a bit of a point of principle too... I think that it's fair enough to expect an update!
The Dogmother
I know, we had the chopper up one day last year after reports of someone wielding a machete coppers came round asking everyone to stay indoors; never hear anything about it again... I even asked my friends at the station and they weren't able to tell me anything.
Egluntyne
Blimey! Is there nothing on the local news?
WitchHazel
Are you on Twitter? You could tweet to your local police helicopter twitter account and ask them. https://twitter.com/NPAS_Exeter
Groovychook
Well, I've just rung the non emergency number(can't believe that's a chargeable number ), and after a bit of searching, they found a reference to the river Inny on Friday evening. She was very vague and said that she thinks it must have been 'sorted'. She said that there would have been dogs along with the helicopter search and that 'they wouldn't have got away with that'. I said that I'd presumed that it must have been resolved but that after such a strong warning on Friday night, I needed to be reassured that we could drop our guard. She made a bit of a joke that I must have been hoping for a week off work. All a bit odd... Still nothing on the news or online!
mullethunter
That's a bit rubbish if you ask me. I know they're busy and understaffed but I would've thought it would have been better to say 'I don't know but I'll find out and someone will let you know'
