Chickabee
Last Thursday was one of the worst days of my life. I was woken like many by the horrendous thunder and lightning and the terrible rain. My dogs sleep in a large stable at night, at 4.30 one of them barked softly. I got up thinking he needed a wee. When I opened the back door I couldn't believe my eyes. A river was gushing through my back garden. I rushed to get the dogs and had to stop the 12 year old from being washed away. 2 of my Omlet runs were completely under water, the cube was hanging on in there. My daughter and I were the only ones in and managed to get as many of the girls as we could to high land. We rescued my Brahma who had miraculously got her head out of a small hole and was gasping for air. The 3 blacktails by the now non existent pond somehow managed to find an air pocket and survived. However I lost my gorgeous crested Poland, Flower and my millefleurs pekin Maud. I'm still so sad, they were very healthy and beautiful. Sorry to go on so long, but I knew that you guys would understand.
Olly
That's terrible - very sad but well done on rescuing some of your flock. The rainfall we had here was unprecedented, I've never seen so much fall so quickly. It must have been really frightening, and I'm sorry to hear about your lost hens. The force of nature can never be underestimated can it, but fingers crossed you never have to go through anything like that again.
