Black liquid eyeliner

Recommended Posts

I usually use a smudgy pencil liner on my upper eyelid. I don't use eyeliner on my bottom lid, it sort of closes my eyes in if you get what I mean.

I just got a free sample of a liquid one which I'm finding a bit scary. I don't want to do the swept up thing which looks beautiful on younger women but on older women it can look terrifyingly dreadful.

Are there rules? Like where on the eyelid you should start and where should you end? I'm using my x10 mirror to apply it, I'd hate to go out looking like a member of Kiss.

I start from the outside edge and do short strokes to just before the halfway point of my eye. My YD starts from the inside corner and does an artful sweep which ends in a beautiful flick. I do the flick as well, but it never lasts. I would love to know how to make it last.

I have bought her some Kat Von D liquid eyeliner for crimbo, which is meant to be amazing. If it is, I may be buying myself some

I am hopeless with any kind of make up and, knowing my limitations, stick with a Burt's Bees coloured lip pencil! Any previous attempts to do anything linerwise with eyes has resulted with me decorating my eyeballs; not a good look  Or I end up looking like a really haggered Cleopatra...again, not recommended!

I only use liquid eyeliner - always found pencils horribly draggy

Technique depends whether it has a brush or fibre tip - personally I massively prefer the former, but these are harder to find now.

If it's a brush, I start at the inner corner and do a very quick line - it's much easier to get smooth finish if you're v quick (and you're less likely to blink and paint your eyeball! ). Even in older years end with a tiny up flick at the outer corner or the effect can kind of drag your eye downwards/be ageing

Fibretips I kind of lay on their side and 'pull' the line along that way. There's unlikely to be enough product to do a continuous line if you try and use it 'straight on' like a pencil.

If you've never done it before you'll need practice - and a pile of tissues/wipes ;)

If the flick doesn't last that's often down to oil around the eye area or a product which crumbles off if there are wrinkles - putting shadow over the top can help to 'set' the liner and help it wear better
