Msbooth74
I thought I should post on here so steps can be taken to safeguard your chickens. We had three chickens, which we have had for 3 years - then on Thursday night a fox got into the Eglu (Classic) through the tray which slides out at the bottom. The fox had somehow managed to get the tray out and squeeze in through the smallest of gaps and up into the Iglu. We found one chicken still on the nesting box and two in the run, all with heads/wings removed. We had always assumed the Eglu to be fox proof but this is not the case and you should take steps to put something behind the Eglu to prevent this happening to you. Millie-Annie
I am so sorry to hear this. I know how you feel and the shock and sadness you are going through. I wish we could develop a fox specific nuclear bomb and nuke the bloody lot off the face of the earth. They are like wasps, do nothing but cause distress and fear. Have you let Omlet know? Grandmashazzie
My goodness, how devastating especially when you thought they were safe.
The Dogmother
Sorry to hear that, I had something not dissimilar many years ago, when fox got its claws in the back of the eglu by lifting up the actual top of the cover. I wonder if this is what happened to you as their poo tray slot is only 2"high.

Lewis
Sorry to hear it. We had a similar incident where a predator pulled chicks out through the gap but hadn't got into the Eglu. It was just a freak accident. Are you sure it was a fox? Could it have been something smaller?
