chickencam
Autumn's ok but winter has come early. A nip in the air is ok but today it is biting chunks out of me
Laura & CTB
It's soooo cold!!! I'm sat in my office with two heaters switched on and desperately trying not to have to cross the yard to do any work - means going OUTSIDE!
chocchick
STILL not got our boiler We have our next quote lined up on Sunday though Luckily the lounge is quite warm and I have a duvet and/or gas heater if needed. Outside is freezing though
Egluntyne
I had to put a jumper on in bed last night! Psychologically I am not ready yet for a quilted bed jacket.
Jools
It's glorious sunshine here but with a biting northerly wind. The dogs are out enjoying the sun but I'm stuck in the office. I've got two fleece tops on and I've just lit the woodburner. Somehow I don't think we're getting an Indian Summer

Tina C
Aw Jools, we were planning on doing a walk on Saturday - Crinkle Crags and Bow Fell - but the forecast has changed from daytime sunshine and 12 degrees/night time 10 degrees (yesterday) to daytime 10 degrees/night time 1 degree. Not sure if I fancy what could sub-zero camping - I was SOOOO cold in my own bed last night. Your post has put me off completely!
Tina C
And I wore my socks! Today I am working wrapped in a blanket as I refuse to put the heating on in September.
chickencam
i'm wearing a fleece over my cardi' and top and doing the ironing to keep warm. Going to light the woodburner when youngest gets home.
Jools
Sorry Tina - here's the mountain forecast from the Met Office for the Lakes this weekend. I don't know if that makes you feel any better though! Outlook for Saturday After another cold start with a patchy ground frost across the west of the park, a day of sunshine and showers is expected, though any showers will be mainly light and well scattered leaving some decent sunny intervals between, and with lighter winds it will feel a little warmer than recently. Outlook for Sunday A rather cold start again with a patchy ground frost and isolated mist and fog patches at first. Any mist and fog will clear through the morning to leave mainly dry and sunny conditions with light and variable winds.
Tina C
Thanks - I think So I am likely to get wet AND cold now! BBC is saying 15 degrees and wet then 2 degrees now
The Dogmother
There's a biting north wind here too and a smell of roasting coffee, so more cold weatehr is on it's way. Just 5 degrees here this morning and I had thermal socks on in bed!
Popcorn
Not sure if I fancy what could sub-zero camping - I was SOOOO cold in my own bed last night. Your post has put me off completely! Tina - DON'T DO IT !! We went camping in April, and we had such a bad night with the cold we ended up paying to stay in a Travel Lodge the following night. It really was grim (but then again - so was the Travel Lodge!) I thought my kidneys had frozen it was so cold. At 3am, I went and got in the car and tried to sleep. I was a real 'bear with a sore head' the next day
Jools
I did that one June a few years ago in Scotland. And my nephew complained that he would only ever go camping in Cumbria again when it was warm - that was in August!!!! I'll take a comfy bed any day over roughing it
Egluntyne
I am so cold that I am dithering. I am working from home today...so I keep hopping on to the forum for a bit of company...If I'd gone into work the heating would have been on...but like Tina C I refuse to put it on at home in September! I am wearing my Omlet fleece, a thick pair of socks and am frozen. I need a pair of fingerless gloves. Nicola H could you knit me a pair please. The Dogmother
To add to the general miserable-ness it's now pouring with rain here I'll be lighting the stove again tonight then *sighs*
Guest
I resist the heating too, with a complete fanatical vengeance. BUT I am so cold. I always forget that no matter how many clothes you put on, if your house is cold so are your hands. Then I can't concentrate or do anything! I think it was two years ago I managed to wait until November for the heating. This year I am struggling to make it to Monday 1st October! Brrrr! Cinnamon
My heating is on I couldn't bear it any longer - being at home all day I do not NEED to feel cold So, its on, but on low & on constantly day & night as that way it is more effeicent at heating the house And now I am off for a deep, hot, bubbly bath while my lovely potroast burbles away in the oven - thats winter food for you
Snowy
I put the heating on yesterday But it didn't work Engineer coming tomorrow
The Dogmother
I had it on, low morning and evening the last couple of days. The stove has been on as well in the evening.
craftyhunnypie
No central heating in our old house - just the coal fire & no coal!!! So been running it on wood for the last couple of days & nights. Had to use the guard round it, as it spits like hell! I'm quite cosy here! Perishing outside tho. I went grocery shopping earlier & bought, yes bought some eggs from the egg lady on the market & some veggies! I also got some bargains! I got a pair of Jeans from M & Co for £6, some knee length stripey socks £1 a pair (so bought 3) & a Per Una Knitted Shrug in blues & greens for £5 from the Per Una stall! Fab! £14 the lot!!!!! I'm going to make up a slimming World rice pudding later in the remoska - now that's cold weather pudding!!!! Emma.x
DizzyLizzie
I've been wearing socks in bed at night all this week. We haven't got the heating on yet - quite warm in the day - but cold at night, although we still like the window open a crack for fresh air. Might need to put the heating on for a couple of hours before bedtime/first thing in the morning soon... We're having cottage pie tonight but I'm tempted to make a rice pud tomorrow - yum!
