tenzin
If your keen on keeping the egg production up you can put artificial light in the nestring area at night , MAGIC .. I allow mine to sleep in the dark during the winter months so it gives there body a chance to rest

My MIL had apple blossom on her tree last week, what's that all about!?
Roxanne
I still have 4 a day most days but have had some soft shelled eggs in the last few weeks. The girls come out at 7.00am and are in at 6.30pm ish and are still on grass and in the sun most of the day. We are moving them off the grass soon so I expect I will have to start buying eggs again soon as they seem to react to changes in environment. Krysia
Yes we have 5 layers and are lucky to get 2 eggs a day at present and one of those is sometimes soft shelled. The chicks aren't going to lay till about easter (they are not hybrids just random eggs from mixed free rangers) Soooo becuase I refuse to buy eggs I have ordered another two PP today to come with the new cube on Friday. Chicken Licken
my 2 weren't laying, last night they both laid overnight and it must have been the middle of the night. The eggs were both stone cold by the time I opened the eggdoor this morning. Poor girls - they are losing their fluffy bloomers and seem genuinely confused by the changing seasons. Gallina
I hardly noticed any difference in laying during my hens' first winter, but a huge difference in their second.

Egluntyne
I hardly noticed any difference in laying during my hens' first winter, but a huge difference in their second. Ditto from me too. My "second hand" girls are still cheerful and bobbing about, but I am only getting one or two eggs a day from the 4 of them. I'm going to have to gt a few more in the spring to go in the Yellow Eglu, which is not earning its keep at the moment. I fancy some Spekledys next time.
