Charlottechicken
I hope not. A firefighter dead and three missing inside the vegetable warehouse. If it is arson and they catch the perpetrators they should be tried for murder See here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/coventry_warwickshire/7076175.stm Edited November 3, 2007 by Guest

Egluntyne
How dreadful.
Couperman
That's awful, I know it's their job and all but those guys are all heroes to risk their lives going into a burning building to rescue people. It makes my blood boil to think that it was started deliberately. In certain areas not far from us the kids think it is fun to set fire to things such as wheelie bins, outhouses, skips etc and then stone the the fire crews with bricks, bottles and petrol bombs when they attend. What is that about? I think it is time to trim the herd. Scumbags. Kev.
theherd123
We have a friend who is a fire fighter who we think might have gone to the fire - we are waiting to hear from him but he is probably in bed after the long night!
bronze
I'm with you lot Lets just keep hopeing that the other three are safe
The Dogmother
We're worried too folks.... our neighbour is a fire fighter at Banbury station and knows loads of the lads on that team... he's waiting to find out whether it's one of his mates
Lesley
With 80 firefighters, they will be from all across the county. It is just 2 miles from us and is opposite my son's friend's house. My son is always being stopped on his way home from his friend's in the early hours - Friday night was no exception It isn't the sort of area to attract bored teenagers - in that it is very rural so it is extremely worrying that it is being regarded as suspicious I wonder if there was a communication problem as most of the workers there are Polish or Lithuanian - it would be very easy to indicate that 'Yes, there is someone inside' rather than saying 'Yes, everyone is out' It is also on the same site as a very large hatchery - lots of talk/chat going around in the area.................. Martin B
The firefighter who is confirmed dead is from the Alcester fire service branch. One of the other missing ones is from us aswell. We know names down here, but I don't think we are aloud to publish them. One of them though had a new born baby last month.
little chickadee
God that's so sad. Our thoughts are with their families
Blackrocksrock
OMG how terrible for the families and also their workmates and friends. This should not really be happening - pray they catch the culprits.
Egluntyne
It looks as though the fire fighters went inside to look for sleeping immigrant workers, and the great piles of rotting veg were giving off gasses that fuelled the fires. Supermarkets dictating prices and causing cost cutting have been implicated as being part of the cause of the situation. This won't come as a surprise to many. Charlottechicken
There are some nasty stories in the press about this today, only time will tell if they are scaremongering. Tales of unfinished sprinkler systems, people sleeping in the warehouse as they work too long a shift (16 hours) to get home, multi millionaire owner, etc etc Martin, the chap you refer to with the baby who is missing has been named by the papers. All so sad
Snowy
This is terrible for the fire service. Things like this affect all brigades as they see themselves as one big team. I do some work for Leicester Fire service - can't imagine what the mood will be like at work on Tuesday They'll be devastated.
Martin B
Now it's out, I used to go to school with Ashley and Emma but they were in the year above me, so I've known them most of my life. Ashley's brother is also a good friend. The boquets of flowers are increasing outside the fire station and the number of people gathering up to pay respects is quite phenomenal.. The Dogmother
It seesm that Justin knew the lad who died - he's very subdued today. J has a young family too and is only about 26 or so himself. It brings it so much closer for others in the brigade Don't start me on the rant about cheap labour and produce - I've already been on one today
Lesley
I can hardly bear to watch the news now - it is so terribly sad.
Martin B
I've just been to lay some flowers. There are 100's of boquets and there are many people walking down the high street, flowers in hand. Martin

Egluntyne
Am bumping this up to bring the appeal back to the attention of the forum and to mention that the first of the funerals took place yesterday. The others will take place over the next few days.
