Poor Nigella

Recommended Posts

Yesterday when I fed the girls I noticed that Popcorn wouldn't let Nigella anywhere near the food. Nigella seems perky enough so I left her in the eglu and checked on her when I got home from work. She was very weak and the others had all been sitting on her. I brought her in and tempted her with a bit of layers mash and some water. She had practically nothing in her crop and was very skinny. She fell aslepp in my arms at about 11pm so I packed her into a box lined with straw and to my surprise she made it through the night. Again, this morning I dampedened her beak with water but she wouldn't eat. I have just watched her as her head fell and she died.

It's so hard when this sot of thing happens. I wish I'd noticed how the others were treating her sooner. I feel so awful.

So sorry to hear about Nigella.

The others may have been picking on her because they sensed something was already wrong. It is natures way of ridding the flock of a weak or sick bird.

I'm sure they won't have been the cause. Even so it must have been horrible to watch.

You did everything you could, and much as we would like to, we can't watch them every minute of the day.
