Should I take him to a doctor?

Recommended Posts

Yep I thought the same thing Eglutine.

Mind you if he is dehydrated a drip will work wonders - but so stressfull with a little one.

Although childrens wards can be marvellous

(except when I was in with James as a baby all the other parents did nothing but complain that there was no food or drink provided - they had to go to the restaurant at the other side of the hospital! - I had everything I wanted though because I was breast feeding)

Hello everyone just on to update you all. I have just got back from the hospital, the other half has taken over. Yup spoke to the doctor at 2:30 yesterday after we were getting very little improvment from Noah and she called up the hospital and arranged for us to take him in to see a pediatrician, which is just as well, as the Anti Biotics wont have done a lot for him as its not just a chest infection, he has blood tests and chest xrays and he has pnemonia

He has been on IV anti biotics and a drip to keep his fluids up, he is drinking a bit now although still not very interested in eating and will be in for at least another night. Im staying with him over night and OH is taking over from me for a few hours each day so I can come home and catch up on sleep and my mum is looking after Dylan for me. its not easy sleeping on a ward of crying children and having Noah woken every couple of hours to check his vitals and give him more drugs and he isnt liking wearing an oxygen mask.

Bless him he is coping really well, I just feel really bad at having not taken him to a hospital sooner.

Take care all, will no doubt speak soon, hope to have him home in the next day or two, Im now off to bed.

xx

Don't feel bad, on Friday he probably didnt have pnemonia - kids go downhill FAST

They also go uphill FAST

I'm sure he'll pick right up soon - you look after yourself now, HE is being cared for YOU need to concentrate on yourself - otherwise you'll not be up to looking after him when he gets home.

Love and hugs to you all.

Don't beat yourself up...you have been so worried about him and done all the right things at the right time and he went to hospital when he needed more than you and the doctor could give him at home. My son was admitted with suspected meningitis when he was 3 . He was so poorly but it was pneaumonia and after 48 hrs of treatment he was running around the ward. Take care of yourself.

Phew! At least you now know what it is, and he's getting the treatment that he needs. It's sometimes difficult to work out exectly what is wrong with a child - sometimes they exagerrate how poorly they feel and other times they tell you nothing at all. He's in the best place now Cat - I hope that he gets better soon and that you can finally get some rest!

just to add my sympathies CatsCube

He is in the best place to be looked after at the moment

Take care of yourself (not easy, I know) but he'll soon be up and about and he will need you to be fit and well to look after him

Take care

Well I called NHS direct and Im still not sure what to do.

They very unhelpfully said that I needed to make sure he drank, and I said I have a drink with him constantly and I keep trying to get him to have some, and she said 'well you will have to try harder' well quite how Im ment to force it down his throat I dont know :?

she said I could try rehydration salts, but if he isnt drinking that might not work, and she said I could try the doctors if I wanted, but to be carefull about exposing him to others with the winter sickness bug, and I dont want to risk him getting that too.

So still not sure. Im trying to call my mum so she can watch Dylan for me if I do get a doctors appointment, as the last think I want to do is expose a 8 month old to a load of sick people in the waiting room with this winter vimiting bug going round.

I think i must have spoken to the same woman a couple of months ago!! I couldn't get my 1yr old to drink anything either and she just kept on saying that i needed to try harder!! In the end we used a syringe to get the water down, but yes they are very unhelpful! My son at the moment as the sickness bug, but is luckily drinking loads.

Just to echo everyone elses sentiments, it's good news for both of you that he is in the hospital now. You finally know what's wrong, and although I'm sure you are still worried sick, he is in the best place. I'm sure he will start to improve very quickly and you will soon be run ragged with him  It will be you that needs all the tlc when it's over.

Very best wishes to you both

Sorry...just seen this thread. Hope Noah feels better soon. He is in the best place. Baden was admitted to hospital with his first asthma attack at 13 months old. It really is scary. Hope you all have a better year once this is over and he gets recovers.
