Egluntyne
Cheeky mares! I'll have to put you both on false teeth cleaning duties. Just don't collect them all up in the same bowl.

Just how many times has that happened in any nurses' career. In mine it has just been too many to mention...................and no I was not one of them. What about sluice cleaning duties eh Oh, back in the day
Snowy
Cheeky mares! I'll have to put you both on false teeth cleaning duties. Just don't collect them all up in the same bowl. My Mum did that when she was doing her nurse training! I got put on thermometer cleaning duties and dropped the bowl, shattered the lot I'm also a nurse. I spent 7 years on the wards then went into Occupational Health nursing about 16 years ago. It's a brilliant job, I've worked in acute and community hospital settings; fire and ambulance services; banks and telecomm centres; prisons and factories making everything from cars to glue. Self employed now, but only do one day a week. The rest of the time I am mother to 3 boys, church secretary, run a toddler group and am a recycled bag lady!! I like variety! Jules.
I work 14 hours/ week over 2 days in a bank- I think I have a really good work-life balance. The rest of the time I'm a full time mum to Alexander & Ethan, my weeks are chock a block with playschool runs, my exercise class, walking (speed- supposedly!) with my friend, taking Alexander to football training, going swimming & out to various church meetings both on Sundays & weekdays. I love it! It's a good job hubby is good at cleaning & shopping as I never seem to have time to fit it all in.

SarahJo
I used to be a Medical Rep. Then had my two boys, and stayed at home for 7 years. In-between, have been a Mid-day assistant and Kitchen assistant at the boys school - and full-time chef, driver, animal tender etc at home. Now I am using my eduation - again - and am a Lab Technician at a Girls School ( yr 9 - 11 ), primarily biology and general science. . Great to be in a job where I get same if not longer hols than the boys, and I finish in-time to pick them up from school everyday. OH does the drop off in mornings - and is also very good at housework.

Krysia
I work for a company that EPOS (Electronic point of sale) equipment, Cedit card / chip and poin payment machines. I have worked there for 5 years and before having Ash I was a full time team leader on the helpdesk I returned 2 days a week (working 16 hours to cram the time in but on less days)but the Team leader job share just didn't work so I am now a 'quality assessor' looking at the quality of service our helpdesk provide to the public / banks. I am loving my new role and the fact that I only work 2 days do have loads of time with Ash.

seagullukuk
I am another nurse. I think the nurses are now leading the teachers on here a little behind the ladies of leisure In fact I am a children's nurse so maybe the most prolific job on here is indeed the most important of all that being looking after children!! smudgley
I started a new job in mid-November. I work for our local Volunteer Centre and am tasked with promoting volunteering in our area. I am not particularly enjoying my new role at the moment and am wondering whether I should've stuck with my previous role working as an Information Officer for a national children's charity I also volunteer for my local branch of Cats Protection and as a Trustee for my local Home-Start scheme. Rob Sorry to hear your not enjoying your new job as much as you'd hoped Rob. {{hugs}} I work for Guide Dogs at the Breeding Centre. I'm involved with the breeding programme. I too am a volunteer for my local Cats protection branch.

Yorkshire Pudding
Another vote for the teachers here! I started teaching secondary science eleven years ago, but I have moved into Special Needs/Learning Support over the last few years. I work mainly with teenagers with emotional and behavioural difficulties. In fact there seem to be a lot of people in this thread working with children with special needs one way or another. I love it because there's never a dull moment, you have to keep constantly on your toes, and because the kids are so full of surprises. We get to know them really well (and vice versa). If it wasn't for the paperwork it'd be perfect!

Kathy C
I am also in teaching, of a sort, I am a tutor at the agricultural campus of a college. I used to be a science teacher in a secondary school, but have moved into purely pastoral work now ,which I love. I love listening to and helping students with their problems. Each day is completely different; on Tuesday I helped rescue the small animals whose paddocks were being flooded, such fun! Everybody I work with is so kind and It is a joy to do something so worthwhile.
AmandaR
I've worked from home for the last 7 years doing the accounts and admin for mine/my husbands company. It has fitted in well with the children growing up but I'm starting to go stir crazy with just the four walls to look at - the grass isn't always greener! BUT...in keeping with the teacher thing going on...I am a governor at the local school and also volunteer for Young Enterprise - whereby we go into schools teaching children subjects from social responsibility and the way money moves within a community to running your own business, depending on their age. I enjoy trying to reach out to those children that are less academically minded - that exam results need not be the be all and end all to their working lives.
