My OH and I went out this time last year to visit his brother and sister-in-law. I loved the whole experience. Just try to think of how lucky you are to be going to live in a such a wonderful place. I also have a lovely MIL they are not as bad as they are painted Roll on June at least you have a British spring to look forward to and those GCSE's to do and lots to keep you occupied. He should be mid pacific by now. Working on our times (ie not adjusting to local times) he took off at 2:25 yesterday, should have landed at LA round about 2:30-ish (am), 3 hours kicking his heels and experiences the joys of American immigration (even transit passengers with no intention of leaving the airport have to queue for the priviledge of fingerprinting and retinal scanning) then should have taken off again at around 05:30 for a 14 hr flight across the pacific. Should land 7:30 pm in Auckland, then he has to wait best part of an hour for a 30 minute flight to Rotorua. Finally at his destination at around about 9pm tonight............or approx 8am Friday morning over there I think he'll be very tired and fed up with all the travelling. He did say that he'd try to ring/ email from Auckland if he gets the chance, but otherwise I may not actually hear until quite late tonight when he finally hits Rotorua I will feel heaps better though when I know he's landed safely. That said I am feeling a lot more positive now thanks all. I had a weak, weepy moment this morning when it felt that everything was going wrong, just triggered by a stupid mistake and a little bit of people seeming to deliberately trying to make life more difficult, but I've pulled myself together, done a heap of ironing and I'm decluttering with a vengeance It's brilliant to have such fantastic, supportive friends to help though.......you're a great bunch of people. I'm just waiting until it's a reasonable hour to ring him.............it's 07:20am over there right now, and he likes his sleep, so I'm giving him another 2 hours before I ring The children have been out all day today, so I've spent all day spring cleaning and sorting just to keep busy. I've never felt lonely in my own home before............very strange . I hope this feeling wears off soon. I took this week off work, thinking I'd need the time to help sort him out, but I actually wished I was at work today........just to escape the very quiet (and tidy) house . Dear Hubby works abroad, and though he comes home regularly, loneliness at home is familiar to me.... we had a few times when he was home for a while, then left again, and each time it was so difficult to adjust to again... Try and think he's left part of him behind in your kids and the world is such a small place these days at the touch of a button you can speak to him or see him (a web cam might be an idea if you haven't already got one). Try and plan things every couple of weeks so that you have something to look forward to and before you know it June will be here (and we really don't need to know about the reunion - trust me!).
