Nicola H
Oh wow I hope it all works out for you this year and that you get lots of lovely honey, the hives look great.........
Lesley
I don't think we will get any honey this year - we'll just be building up any colonies we have, ready to get them through the winter.
Snowy
That's looking lovely Lesley - you have a fence up! The hives look great, but I don't think I could cope with opening up a bee hive, no matter how well protected!

Lesley
We were going to check the bees today, before the rain which was forecast........... we didn't make it....... but we did collect some of the hay - by hand Lauren and Jake raked it up and put it into wheelbarrows - Jazz 'helped' You can just see the sheep in the background - we herded them into a small area by the field shelter ready for shearing tomorrow evening. SarahJo
WOW - Jake is like Ben now - ALL LEGS Fab hives Lesley, a real turnaround hopefully from the start to the bee season this year . Lauren and Jazz have both changed and grown - where does the time go. Great pics, and lovely news to catch up on.
Lesley
We were just remarking that Jake is suddenly all legs ...and Lauren (10) is wearing a Ladies 'size L' T Shirt - and no, I haven't shrunk it in the wash!
SarahJo
Its only when you manage to stop and look - or others comment that the growth spurts slap you hard in the face, quite literally. . Fantastic photos - and I know you and Carl are very proud, and quite rightly, of it all - still , but in a nice way

Sheilaz
Lovely pictures Lesley. The children have certainly been well fed & watered, and enjoyed all that lovely fresh air and exercise at the farm. Collecting hay, that's what childhood summers should be like. Precious times.

Helly Welly
Christopher's friend came for tea last year and the boys picked the peas to go with the meal, and they had those raw with a chicken dinner they taste so much better like that You just can't beat the taste of raw peas, straight from the pod. Taste nothing like frozen peas. I picked loads of blackcurrants and raspberries yesterday, soon be jam-making time. When i was a kid, summers were spent at pick-your-own places, digging up spuds, getting purple hands from twisting leaves of beetroot and getting sick from eating too many strawberries and loganberries, then hitching a ride back to the car park on a tractor and trailer. Yorkshire Pudding
I was put in the weighing scales by the farmer because I was covered in juice from head to foot. I was only two at the time.
Lesley
The pigs have eaten nearly all the grass in Piggy Paddock 1 So we cut a hole in the fence, through to Piggy Paddock 2 - spot the pig (s)! and we have 7 new residents......
Paola
Ok Lesley, how many piggies should we be able to see? This is going to have me going for days like the last one
The Dogmother
That's just it Paola -= you can't see them at all in the long grass I've got some piccies from the weekend lesley, I'll email them over to you when I get time.
Cate in NZ
Lovely photos Lesley....I love the lambs . I'm sure I love the pigs too.....only I can't see them
Lesley
The pigs just completely disappeared into the long grass! They are quite happy going backwards and forwards between the paddocks. Clare - you can post your photos direct in here if you want? The large sheep with the black eye patch is .......a sheep We bought 5 lambs and 2 ewes. The ewes are 3 years old and each have their this year's lamb with them. The second photo shows one ewe with her lamb. The ewes are Kerry Hill which are a traditional breed. Their lambs are Kerry Hill X Derbyshire Gritstone, another traditional hill sheep. We also have a Beulah lamb and two black lambs which are crosses but I can't remember what sort ( ) It was funny when we let them into the field - the new lambs are bigger than our full grown Shetland ewes! The ram lambs will be ready for the freezer in September/October - we have three which will be going. They are acting as lawnmowers for us but having a happy, grass fed, life in the meantime!
