Lesley Posted May 12, 2008 Author Share Posted May 12, 2008 Sorry - no photos.....poor little lamb didn't make it I went out before 6 yesterday, I panicked for a moment, but had the wrong sheep in sight.....mother and baby were lying together. Baby bleated as if he was hungry and she ignored him but as I walked towards her, she stood up and let him feed. I watched for a while until he walked away of his own accord - he seemed lively enough. We were working in the poly/greenhouse and could see the sheep so we kept an eye on them all. As the sun came up, she started taking him out into the sun, we popped over a couple of times and moved him to the shade and she came running over to him. Eventually, it appears she took him out into the sun and ignored him Carl went to check up and found the lamb all but lifeless and despite our best efforts, including mouth to mouth, very gently, and some glucose water, we couldn't revive him. We were still missing the cows - we glance over and they're not there...... then we despatched two of the table birds, which we still find difficult........ and less than half an hour later we were trying to save a life instead of ending it Perhaps we should take up arable farming instead There are only two now who could possible be pregnant...... one of them sometimes looks like she might be, but they do hide it incredibly well. I can usually see if mine are pregnant near the end, as the fleece starts to part where their tummies swell up! Several of mine seem to develop big udders weeks in advance too. I have two who have lambed several times and they make a point of developing painful-looking football udders weeks in advance as well as growing to the size of a house and lying around panting, struggling to get up, etc etc. I always feel so sorry for them!
