furball
Not long after i moved into this house a very dear auntie passed away. I have a black cat as well as 2 others. One morning i was vaccuming my sons bedroom when my cat muffin ran into the bedroom and hid under the old chest of drawers, its on legs. I thought this was strange as muffin is scared of the vac so i shut the door and turned the vac off and went to get muffin from under the chest of drawers. Nothing there so took all the toy boxes out from under sons bed but no muffin? I went down stairs and looked for muffin but she wasnt in the room, so i went into the kitchen and she was curled up fast asleep in the basket and the kitchen door was shut, so she couldn't have got upstairs anyway?. Since then i have seen the cat on 3 other occasions. On the days that someone i know has passed away, before i find out, if that person is close to me i see it walk across the room, but if the person is a friend of a friend i just see him out of the corner of my eye. My dear auntie that passed away had a black cat when i was a little girl so i think that is the connection, its her way of letting me know when someone is passing over, My LSH doesn't like me talking about it as it gives him the creeps. I adopted 2 rescue cats one of them being muffin from a lady who was dying of cancer. The carer who contacted me said all she wanted was to know that the cats had a loving home before she passed away. The carer rang me on Tuesday and i said i would let her know. I rang back on Wed night and said i would take them but the owner had passed away in the early hours of that morning and didnt find out i was having the cats. 2 or 3 days later the cats were asleep on the sheepskin rug in front of the fire and i saw the figure of a lady in the corner of the room by the front door watching them. Then she dissapeared and i haven't seen her since. I think she came to see that the cats had a good home. Bless.
The Dogmother
That's a lovely story furball . I have had a couple of experiences with ghost type things (and I am the most pragmatic person there is). Just after my lovely granny died, I woke up in the night to feel (not see) her sitting on the bottom of my bed - there was a weight on my legs - she wasn't talking to me, but I got the impression that she was telling me that everything was ok and that she'd always be there for me. The other was when I was about 8 and my grandpa died. I didn't know that he was dead, but my mother came downstairs in the morning to tell me that he'd died in the night and found me making a collage of 'grandpa in heaven because that's where he is'. I don't remember much of this one, but my mother does re-tell it. Oh, and another one... my dad used to work abroad a lot when we were little, and I woke up one morning with the feeling that we ought to talk to him as something was wrong. As I was so insistent, my mother called him in Nigeria to find that there was acoup going on and they were under curfew - he hadn't wanted to worry us by calling. Martin B
I have a ghost story to tell. Well a few and they all happened at my Nans house. My Grandmas neighbor died late last year (November I think!), and ever since ghostly happenings have occured. One Incident happened when I was alone, I was sat in the living room and was reading the newspaper. There was a deafly scilence, and all of a sudden I thought I heard a voice go "GET OUT!" twice, then accordingly the lights started dimming and my Left leg was tight with cramp. I tried to get away but couldn't move because of the cramp. I stared into the hall way where the voice had come from and I saw a light go straight past my eyes. Very Scary but it could be easily explained. Another one incurs two incidents very close, I was eating dinner at the table and randomly a pen hit me on the head, but "Ooops, word censored!"ody had moved ! Then my grandma went up the stairs and when she reached her bedroom she found all her pills on the bed, lay out and her cassettes and books on the floor! We were all scared except my Nan and Grandad as they used to live in a haunted house The reasons why I find these incidents very scary is because of her neighbors personality. The woman next door was deaf, and read a lot(explains books), the woman was very ill also and had stacks of pills(explains pills on bed) also she used to get my grandad to come and replace her light-bulb(explains dimmering lights)! I'm sp kified
Cinnamon
Isn't this odd. A bunch of sensible women (& Martin!) some of whom have admitted to being sceptics,& we have had all these strange experiences. I am a true cynic by nature,& find most things hard to believe,be it "low calorie" or something religious. It is in my nature to be disbelieving, but I think that if this number of people have had experiences like this, there must be something in it..... The bizarre thing is that we will never really know

Richard and Jo
That was funny Kate. I always felt funny round my Nans house in Wimbledon as a kid. Years later I spoke to my cousins about it and they said they had felt something strange there too. Going to the loo upstairs would scare the life out of me. I told my mum this as we were moving my Nans stuff out - there was a wardrobe in the back bedroom that took three of us to lift. She told me this story - as a child she shared the bedroom with her sister - she went to the toilet one night and heard a loud bang. When she went back in the room the wardrobe had moved right across the room and was lying on her bed. her sister was under the covers in the other bed and didnt see anything. It was too heavy for my Grandad to lift off so stayed there until morning. Noone ever talked of this event again and my Nan refused when I asked her about it. Nice of my mum to let us stay there when we were little kids eh

Amythefoxslayer!
Wow, I never used to beleive in ghosts but I guess they must be real with so many ghost stories. Anyway, I have a ghost story myself.......... Last Summer I had a birthday party and everyone really enjoyed it. Afterwards my friend asked me who the little blonde boy with the blue eyes was, dancing by the barbeque. I said, 'Oh, you must be talking about my little sister Gillian', but she said 'no, it was definitely a boy, older than gillian, with short hair.' Well anyway, the people who owned the house before us moved out because one of their children, a boy, died. I asked my Mum and apparently the whole family had blonde hair. Spooky! According to my friend the boy was probably filmed , by our camera, So I'm planning to look at the video of my party again to see if I can see any ghostly figures......but I havn't got round to it yet....I'm not scared! Cate in NZ
Kate's right - all old hospitals have funny 'no go areas' - I remember when I had my first Night Charge Nurse post, I was told to avoid a particular lift, as at night it always came down to meet with without you pushing the call button.......I didn't believe it, until 3 in the morning, in a quiet block, I got to the lift lobby and the lift started on it's way down......Straight from 4th to ground, and yes, there was no one in it........ Suffice to say I used the stairs instead...... Are you talking about the lift in Barts here Andy, the one that led from the ground floor to the Queen Mary's Nurses Home, (can't remember the name of the block now) ? I've never been at all sensitive to ghostly things, but I do remember a lot of tales around this particular lift, something to do with a student nurse who committed suicide travelling up and down on it. I never saw it move except for when it was expected too, but so many of my colleagues claimed that they'd seen or experienced something that most of them refused to get in it
AnnieP
OK, I have resisted, but here goes. Its a bit long... We rented a beautiful little cottage for 2 years when we first moved to Wiltshire, before we could find what we wanted (yes, it took 2 years)!. Our landlord and lady lived next door. They had bought our cottage first, done it up, then moved next door. We loved it there and were very happy. Neither of us believe in spooks etc. OH is especially cynical and would have once upon a time dismissed all of your stories above as rubbish... the first bit of the story is that one evening when I was at a parent's evening, he was upstairs and swears he heard like, 30 voices, whispering his name. He said it sent chills right through him and he actually went outside to see if it was windy. It wasn't and he went to bed! The second was that he woke up one night to see a whole procession of people passing the bottom of our bed! He sat up, to watch, but didn't feel afraid. He said each one was like a silhouette, but solid, and in the room, not on the wall like a shadow would be. As they got to our bed, they would stop, turn towards him, pause briefly and pass through. He said thery were wearing long clothes and some had hats on, so they looked like very old fashioned people. I laughed this off and said it was a dream, he agreed it must have been, but said he really didn't think it was. When we left the house, we went next door for a meal, and the owner got out photos to show us of its renovation. In one photo, which he drew particular attention to, was a face up in our bedroom window. He told us that "Ooops, word censored!"ody was in there at the time and when they were doing the house up, they would hear wailing and crying. They had the house exorcised, but never liked living there and our room always felt "cold". Their dog refused to go in it and so did ours. Anyway, OH was very quiet whilst listening to this story and must have been wrestling as to whether to tell them his story or not. When he did, the wife went mad! She was almost hysterical and ran from the room crying. It turns out, our house was the village laying out house in days gone by, and our room, the one where the body was "visited" by mourners before its journey, directly East to the tiny church about 1/4 of a mile away. Good eh? I wish I had seen the people!

Popcorn
Oh my life....how ever did you stay in the house Annie?! My hubby doesn't believe in anything ghostly at all. He reckons it's all in the mind, "as the mind is a very powerful thing........" Reading all this lot, I'm not so sure....... We went on a fab ghost walk in Edinburgh once in the the Greyfriars Cemetary. It was once a convenantors prison and The Black Mausoleum was one sacry place. Didn't feel a thing mind..... The story behind the cemetary is truely fasinating though, and well worth a visit if you are ever there...
AnnieP
Oh my life....how ever did you stay in the house Annie?! ... well, neither of us really realised the significance of what OH had "Seen " until we were leaving, but as I said, we were very happy there and neither of us felt there was anything sinister about the house, it was a happy place. However, we are both now much more open minded about things like that, and I would love to have some kind of sign that there is something beyond our world. Wouldn't we all? I don't suppose I ever will though!
Guest
We went on a fab ghost walk in Edinburgh once in the the Greyfriars Cemetary. It was once a convenantors prison and The Black Mausoleum was one sacry place. Didn't feel a thing mind..... The area around greyfriars cemetry is full of ghostly sightings - I used to run one of the pubs round the corner from there and had several 'encounters'. I always used to be paranoid about losing my keys - if you've ever seen a set of pub keys you would know why - about 17 keys on a key ring, an locksmiths delight. I used to keep them locked in a drawer with my cigarettes, with the key to the drawer attached to my belt loop. Then one day my keys disappeared from the locked drawer. We spent the afternoon searching, even though I KNEW I had locked the keys in the drawer. Eventually, I decided to bow to the inevitable, so phoned my area manager and admitted the worse. As I spoke to him on the phone, I decided that a cigarette was the only thing that would get me through - when I opened the drawer, there was the keys sitting on top of my fag packet. I was sitting one night, waiting on a taxi, with chookiehubbie (then just my boyfriend!), his best mate and 2 of the toughest doormen Edinburgh had, when there came a loud banging from behind the fireplace - the only thing behind the fireplace was an empty cleaners cupboard. Needless to say, we waited outside till the taxi came. And then there was the early morning stocktake, when I was shoved head first into a fridge behind the bar, only I was i the place alone...... And, I once did a holiday cover for a manager at the west end of Edinburgh, only he forgot to point out that when you are sat in the office counting thecash, after the staff have gone, you can still here footsteps walking through the bar above....... OOOh! And the function centre that I trained in, where someone had fallen from the resturant balcony, to their death the year it opened, landing right in front of the public bar. Nowadays, even on the busiest night (even Hogmany), no-one will ever stand in that spot at the bar. And the pub in the Grassmarket that I did a bit of training at, where bottles in the celler would re-atrrange themselves at night after it was locked up.... So many more tales I could tell!
