Lesley
Martin - it sounds as if you're not going to wait until the 25th - are you bullying - sorry, persuading - your parents into collecting it early?
Martin B
Unfortunately we will have to wait LONGER as the omlet team are very busy at this time!
motherhen
It's still a much shorter wait than you thought Congratulations, and what lovely parents you have My first hen, many many years ago, was a broody called Penny and I got her and 13 fertile eggs as an Easter present instead of chocolate eggs. Wise choice to go for eglu money rather than chocolate.
Martin B
Yep! Did all 13 eggs hatch? ---Martin---
motherhen
No, it's very rare to get all the eggs to hatch since the cockeral may not have mated with all the hens he lives with I had 8 hatch and they were wonderful And over half of them were little girls The little boys all got called Dinner and had a very happy life and then tasted wonderful
Martin B
hehe Poor cocks somebody would have loved them on the river cottage forum! Lesley She's always looking at things on there! There are two white star cockerels on there at the moment and no takers! Also 4 calling ducks! ---Martin---

Hellcat
No, seriously Martin. what could be better? giving an animal a good life before its eaten. then making sure you eat all of it. thats respect for the animal, for the nourishment it gives you. We want a smallholding in the fullness of time, which will involve chickens for eggs and dinner, ducks and geese for same (my favorite, goose), piggies for breeding and meat and alpacas (cos Ian loves them and they pay for themselves in wool). all my animals would have a great life, then be a great meal! Martin B
Yer, at the devon county show last year I fell in love with some of them and they felt so nice!
ubereglu
Sorry, I forgot to say congratulations, looks like I'm practically th only one without an eglu on this forum.
motherhen
Not the only one, but you are still extremely welcome on the forum and I'm sure your hens are just as happy and well looked after as they would be in an eglu.
ubereglu
I know, I love them to bits. It would be easier to clean them out if I had one, they're easier to move and there are less nooks and crannies in an eglu than in their wooden house-for red mites to hide in. Martin B
You'll get an eglu soon! Just be greatful that your parents let you keep hens!
Guest
I just love happy endings and chickens at Easter (or thereabouts) and a happy excited mum too What a lovely ending and I am so impressed at your dogged determination. Here is a young man that should go far in life. Heartiest congratulations Martin
