Presenting my Ex-Batts.....Edited to add more PICS!!

Recommended Posts

I was lucky enough to be on the list for the Sussex Rescue and even though I missed Pam I got my girls.

Arrived at the farm and saw the hens- a bit of a shock, TBH. If you havent seen ex-batts in the flesh nothing quite prepares you for the pale, shocked faces and the ravaged bodies :(

I spotted this oven-ready little girl

And asked if I could take her home- they said yes!!!!!

A very careful drive home and into their gorgeous orange palace, left to right front row- Slash and Hendrix, back row Van Halen and The Edge (cos she looks like she's on it)

They were almost catatonic at first, Slash just hunched up and shut her eyes, even though she is the biggest and most feathered, mentally she seemed to suffer most. Van Halen went and sat in the nest box for about an hour, Hendrix drank and drank and The Edge was the first to find the food and water, poor baby she is so tragic and so feisty.

My husband was genuinely shocked at the condition of them, he has been in the garden about 4 times just staring at them, he hasnt seen all the BHWT stuff and had no idea.

I have just spent an hour getting them all to bed-I'm knackered! Thanks to the BHWT for my much longed-for girls.

They're going to be lucky lucky girls :D:D:D

Sorry we missed you.......spent the morning dashing about more than expected and arrived for our shift just as you were leaving :(

It was a good afternoon and all the girls rescued went off to new homes :D:D:D Only a few poorlies which have gone to a temporary home (not mine......this time  ) until they are better and can be rehomed at a later date :D:D:D

It was lovely weather and the girls enjoyed their first taste of sunbathing and dustbathing and taking big gulps of water out of bowls (still the bit I enjoy seeing the most) :D:D:D:D

I was up at 5am to let the Rock Chicks out of the Eglu!! They have been having a lovely morning :D

Van Halen thought she'd try this 'dust bathing' malarkey

Scaramouche came visiting to check the new neighbours out

The Edge seems to appreciate my company the most

Bless her she stretched out in the sun and lifted what's left of her wing up

And look what I found in the nestbox

I am so happy for them (and me) nothing else on the farm has been done today

Absolutely beautiful :D

Poor The Edge, she has barely anything on her at all, it will be lovely to see her feather starting to grow back and give her a proper chicken identity.

I love my ex-batts to bits and it looks like yours will be just as cared for.

Enjoy :D

Not embarraed to say these pics have had me in tears

So glad you have The Edge ..they are all lucky now but think she has found the perfect mum..

I just wish my family were willing to except ex batts.. something I need to work on as would love to have such lovely girls to nurse back to health.

Congratulations. You are right...unless people actually see the hens in the flesh, the media cannot really portray the condition these innocent hens are in. I'm convinced that if people actually saw ex bats for themselves, they would never eat an intensive farmed egg or chicken again. Well done for rescueing them. In a few weeks time they will be covered with beautiful feathers.
