Goosey Lucy
It's our Summer Fair at school tomorrow, can anyone recommend a reliable weather forecast site, I usually use the BBC one but recently its not been very accurate. Failing that can everyone please do a Sun Dance for us? Our theme this year is 'A Day At The Seaside'. I think we may have tempted fate Thanks
Mrs Frugal
Metcheck is pretty good . It said it would rain when we went to Wales a couple of months ago - and boy did it rain . Fingers crossed for your Summer Fair .
Egluntyne
Metcheck is very accurate. I don't peg washing out without looking there first.

hillfamily
As a past Chairman of PTA and therefore the one who ultimately had to make that 'shall we set up outside or inside' decision, I can sympathise I have always used the BBC - you could google weather forecasts and just check a few to see what they all say I found the past few weeks that every forecast is saying something different - it always make be laugh when you get a black cloud with raindrop and a sunshine sticking out of it ........... well I think even I could forecast rain, cloud, sun all in one day Good Luck with the School Fair - have fun whatever the weather
Goosey Lucy
Uh oh, not looking good A typical English day at the seaside I think Never mind, we can still do most things but it means more disruption for the teachers/classrooms. Its such a shame as lots of effort has gone into organising displays in the arena area, it won't be as good in the school hall. Oh well, I'm off back to the kitchen, those cakes won't bake themselves. Perhaps a captive audience will buy more?
Guest
this one is REALLY good - run by a local weather nut.. http://www.upminsterweather.co.uk/ might be a bit localised for you though? Phil
TAJ
Oh no - I shouldn't have looked - a BBQ for 40 in my garden Sunday - it shows heavy rain and windy. Tracy
Tessa the Duchess
It's our Summer Fair at school tomorrow, can anyone recommend a reliable weather forecast site, I usually use the BBC one but recently its not been very accurate. I agree about the BBC weather site. I use it all the time and it has been stunningly innacurate of late. It also changes from hour to hour. Due to BBC cutbacks, I don't think they use technical equipment to predict the weather anymore, rather somebody looks out of the window and says 'hmmmm looks as though it might rain later" so that's what they put on their website I like Metcheck and it has proved very accurate in the past. Goosey Lucy
Thanks Phil but it's not quite close enough for me. Unfortunately, the BBC and Metcheck sites seem to be showing the same weather: rain from 7am until about 4pm. Why couldn't we have had today's weather? It's been lovely again. Tessa, I think the BBC also have a piece of seaweed to tell if it's raining or not!
abwsco
I find accuweather good. The BBC, even our local one forecast rain for us nearly all day today. Instead we've had brilliant sunshine!!! Hope the sun does shine for you tomorrow
..lay a little egg for me
Metcheck is pretty good . It said it would rain when we went to Wales a couple of months ago - and boy did it rain . Fingers crossed for your Summer Fair . Agree, I use metcheck
Mrs Webmuppet
We use Metcheck.com, windguru.cz, BBC and the Met office website - the Webmuppets are keen dinghy sailors - we check all these websites to see if its worth loading up and heading off to the reservoir. Met check and the Met Office are the most accurate.
Lesley
Thanks guys. *Scuttles off to have a look while also crossing fingers* You really should know better!!! We live in the middle of the Midlands - so.............you can watch national weather and try playing 'spot Birmingham as it whizzes around the map' ..............or, you can take your pick of everyone elses weather ......or you could try seaweed? ....even the Midlands weather is generally wrong Metcheck is the lesser of all the evils! I hope today's weather isn't too bad for you - I'm sure you'll have fun anyway
Charlottechicken
.............you can watch national weather and try playing 'spot Birmingham as it whizzes around the map' ..............or, you can take your pick of everyone elses weather ......or you could try seaweed? Glad it's not just me then That metcheck site looks really good, albeit slightly depressing I'm sure *rushes off to play 'hunt the sunshine' on metcheck*
Lesley
........and....... The BBC, when they show the general outlook for the next few days..... don't even show Birmingham!!! Just London, Cardiff..........I lose interest after that Nothing for the Midlands area at all........
Goosey Lucy
Lesley said: ........and....... The BBC, when they show the general outlook for the next few days..... don't even show Birmingham!!! Yup, that's why I was asking for site suggestions However it's tiddling here now and looks set for the day so I think we'll be inside. Such a shame as we have horses, candy floss, ice creams, and specially designed rock as well as a host of seasidey stalls and a packed schedule of exhibitions/demonstrations. Laura & CTB
Hope you have fun whatever the weather does I gave up with weather forecasts as they either state the obvious or get it wrong anyway Much nicer to wake up to an unexpected suuny day
Lesley
I hope you had similar weather to us Lucy - it wasn't too bad in the end..... and not as wet as predicted.... what a surprise
Valkyrie
I like Accuweather too - I found it when I was watching Fox news and they were reporting the hurricanes (which I find fascinating) quite a few years ago. They also do the sky at night. I find it more reliable than the BBC or Sky News. They differ so much yet they get the info from the same place! Snowy
Accuweather looks really good, thanks. Except I've just checked for next Saturday when I have a stall at an outdoor craft fair/market - heavy rain and high winds!
Lesley
Midlands, Snowy - it will all change by then I'll have to look at accuweather.........
Goosey Lucy
Well the fair went ahead inside as I thought. It was a bit of a scramble but we were ready for midday. The only things that didn't happen were the horses, cosy coupe grand prix and the car filled with balloons. The rain was drizzly enough for people to get outside for burgers and candy floss and had just about stopped by the time the balloon release happened (don't thnk we'll be doing that next year after considering the danger to wildlife etc) So a good day after all, I was totally shattered by the time we got home at 5, all I have to do now is count and bank the takings. I'm just glad it wasn't windy, it's really blowy today.
Lesley
I'm glad it went well - I was hoping you had the same weather as us. It is really blowy here as well now....
Goosey Lucy
The cover over the trampoline has already started to come off! But it's sunny Dare I risk putting some ahing out or will it blow away? Might just risk it!
