karlotta
So it's C-Day (cube day) minus 25... and i just wondered if i'm going mad... or whether this is totally normal for an impatient Chicken owner to-be... 1. I've started dreaming about Chickens... can't really remember the details but they were definately the main topic! 2. I've already bought Food, corn, mixed grit.... 3. I've also bought a bucket, trug, scrubbing brushes, watering can and note book (for recording laying details!!) all in pink to match my Cube. 4. I've already got a selection of Chickeny trinkets on the mantlepiece 5. Walking the dog at about 9pm tonight I did a detour past our village gift shop to have a peer through the window in case they have anything Chicken related - i've heard from a neighbour the shop owners keep bantams so i'm also going to pop in on the weekend for a chat! 6. I'm already wondering whether I should get a regular Eglu as well as my cube 'just in case!' and have been scouring ebay to this end! So what's the verdict? Ain't Nobody Here
I diagnose you have chicken fever, as defined by the Omlet English Dictionary "chicken fever" = when you can't sleep for thinking of chickens, your whole day is dominated by thinking of chickens and your life as you knew it is generally taken over by all things chicken. Normally suffered by soon-to-be chicken keepers but as there is no known cure, symptoms may persist! (attr. Emma&Louie) You're absolutely, postively, definitely normal . Helen&Lee
Perfectly normal. The only thing you've missed is the matching chair to sit in and watch the chickens... plus umbrella just in case the weather's not kind and the microwave meal ready prepared in the freezer.... Helen
Egluntyne
All perfectly normal and good to hear that you have planned ahead with regard to the extras.

Lapinou
3. I've also bought a bucket, trug, scrubbing brushes, watering can and note book (for recording laying details!!) all in pink to match my Cube. This made me giggle - just the sort of thing I would do! We didn't get as much stuff as you, mainly because of the money! But we did get all the things we could possibly justify getting. I think you're normal
karlotta
Until i pay for the cube... I can afford it ! Actually I got all of the pink stuff in either my local surplus stores or in the 'sale' bit in tesco! Bargain Hunter!
Electricbarbarella
I am definatley also suffering from chicken fever, as is dh and the kids. I only have 2 days left and I am still not sure that I can wait. I am telling anybody who stands still for long enough all about my chook chooks. yesterday I was feeling really down so I went to the pet shop and bought some mixed grit and B&Q for a metal dustbin. My children are boring me, they don't lay eggs or say bok bok, I have a beautiful notebook that my friend bought me for my birthday which is now my all things chook book. i also have a spreadsheet. All the chooks are named. I can't wait, I need a shower curtain but am yet to find a perfectly coordinated one.
karlotta
OMG! I don't have a shower curtain!! Why do I need one???
quickcluck
I am the same!! I've a dedicated 'corner' (half) in the shed full of chicken stuff, and am slowly picking up stuff as i go along... all that is left are apple cider vinegar, bedding and hens!! My cube SHOULD arrive on thursday.. am praying for dry weather for the big build... although the lady on the phone said 'dont take a day off to wait in as they can be a day either side'! What a thing to say!! Of course I've taken the day off, and am fretting BIG time I now have to choose between 3 breeders for my hens which i'll collect on the way home after a short break without my laptop!!!! How will I manage that???
Electricbarbarella
Shower curtain is to go ove the top to shelter from the lovely english weather. Not a day either side please, a day early is fine but I want to collect my chooks on Sat and if it doesn't come on thurs or friday I am priobably actually and rather pathectically going to cry. Lapinou
OMG! I don't have a shower curtain!! Why do I need one??? To keep the rain off We didn't buy one but ended up having an emergency trip to wilkos on Sunday after we found ourselves feeling very sorry for the miserable chooks standing around with their tails down too daft to find their way into the eglu! It's held on the run on one side with the hoops that came with it, and with luggage ties on the other - will pull it off when we start getting some drier weather! chelsea
this thread is really making me laugh (and I need a laugh today) The matching note book is a new item associated with chicken fever I believe! You are both completely normal though, nothing to worry about.
Electricbarbarella
well I have to go out now and part of me is thinking maybe it will be in the back garden when I get back. that would be nice.

AMS
My children are boring me, they don't lay eggs or say bok bok... this made me laugh out loud! I hope all your eglus/cubes arrive early (if that's convenient, of course!!) Alison
Mrs Slats
It's too funny. wish I had thought of matching notebook. Trouble is the pre chicken fever doesn't stop when you finally get your girls... soon you'll be wanting more chooks , some fancy breeds maybe blue egg layers or bantams and a bigger run (Puts the credit card down and walks away from shopping basket )
dancing cloud
Chicken fever - there is no cure I had to wait two months for my Cube, which gave the fever a good long time to incubate (the credit card still hasn't recovered), before the full outbreak two days later, when I got to collect my ex-batts. Six weeks on and there's no sign of it abating, even to the extent of donning waterproofs and sitting out in the wind and thunderstorms with them last night (the cats were safely under the bed ) Chicken fever - it's contagious. Prepare to have more visitors than you ever had before. You buy the biscuits, cos they'll be bringing treats for the hens
Electricbarbarella
well i walked up the path with complete excitement but it is not here. oh well another 1/2 a day has passed friday will be here soon. I have been swimming with some friends and toddlers and all I have talked about all morning is chook chooks, I think people may start to avoid me soon.
