Laura&Sean
Hi everyone I hope someone can help. My SIL has two bluebelles who need rehoming as she has decided to sell her 4 week old eglu as she needs the money fast, she already has a buyer but they don't want the hens. I have four myself in my new eglu and can't help her despite her protests that I am being selfish ARGHHHH I'm very cross and really want to find someone who can help before she conveniently "loses" them or worse(maybe i am imagining the worst but i am worried) We have now fallen out about it and the last thing I said to her was I would try my hardest to find them a home. I am livid already so please don't tell me what I already know about her. Thanks for reading. P.S She lives 5 minutes walk from me so location is the same as mine. JamesH
Blimey, whats going on with all the rehoming requests! How old are they guys? She doesn't want money for the hens too does she?
Tessa the Duchess
What a shame your SIL tried chickenkeepiing for such a short time I totally understand your anger towards her. I would love to take her Bluebelles, they are my favourite chickens, but I live too far away and have no alternative housing at the moment. I do hope someone comes to your rescue. Laura&Sean
Hi thanks for your reply. Since I last posted I called her up to tell her what I had done and she wasn't happy at all saying it would be easier just to let them go on the field. This is going to cause massive friction in the family, I am $%£"&*(* furious. They are 17wks old roughly she's not being very co-operative, I'm going to go round soon and wring her neck. Will take some pics.
Laura&Sean
Some pics of the girls that is not of me wringing her neck unless there are any special requests.
SAB
There is a guy on forum who rehomes chickens of all sorts - he is based in Midlands - might be worth a try.
chooklady
I can feel how cross you are!! It's so annoying when people take on animals without really thinking through the consequences and they can just be disposed of! I wish I was closer, although my run isn't ready yet, as my chooks are coming on the 12th, and I want a Bluebelle! I do hope you can sort something out and this has a happy ending. Laura&Sean
Thanks everyone, I am leaving soon and will update when I can. Must take some deep breaths and count to ten before I walk into her house. SAB which forum? Do you have a link please?
Egluntyne
I can't get my breath. What an atrocious attititude. She clearly did her homework well. It is very sensible of you not to be bullied into taking them off her hands. I hope you find a satisfactory solution.
Tina C
If she has only had them a few weeks the breeder might take tham back? (I think the forum SAB refers to is Practical Poultry)
SAB
Hi - the forum is www.practicalpoultry.co.uk - free to join - then look under the "livestock wanted" section - you may need to jump back a page or 2 on this - you are looking for a post by "beegal" (real name - Alan) who is listing for Chickens etc FTGH Midlands - he rehomes lots of birds and seems to have very good reputation on the forum - If distance is too much of a problem he may be able to suggest someone else - good luck with it all and glad you are caring enough about these birds when you don't even own them! Mrs Frugal
Oh blimey! What an attitude she has! I'm aghast! Alan (Beegal) is also a member here and you can contact him via PM - http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=3744 Good luck. I hope that you're able to find new homes for the hens and that she gets her money .
hilda-and-evadne
They are 17wks old roughly They're still just babies, they won't survive five minutes "on the field". Oh (need a "penny drops" emoticon), is that what your sister meant? I would love to give them a home but am in London and without own wheels. Mrs Frugal
Laura, I've just PMd you with Beegal's phone number as I realised I've still got it from a previous request. Good luck! He might know of someone if you're too far from him. The hens will certainly not make it if they're dumped in a field. I hope you can find someone to take them in. Gallina
I would have them if anyone could bring them down Oxford way, but I realize this is unlikely. I love Bluebelles.
Lynn
Hope everything goes well with the rehoming of the Bluebelles - if I didn't know better I'd say she was related to our next door neighbour!!
Laura&Sean
I wish my update was good news but at the moment I am now off to local supermarket to get a cardboard box. We have had a massive row and the lady who has !!!!already paid for eglu!!!! is collecting it this afternoon.I JUST CANNOT BELEIVE IT. I have also been asked for a link to this forum by her which could prove quite awkward for me as I haven't been too kind but I am so cross with her. Thank-you for all your replies I am really rushed off my feet now so am going to re-evaluate the situation when they are here and not set free on the field behind her house which is what she is going to do. This is a real mess and I am very new to keeping hens myself so a bit daunting to say the least to rescue 2 chickens I don't/cant even keep. I will update as soon as able but have school run/mum to take to train station/ cardboard box to get 2 unwanted Bluebelles to collect ASAP and SIL to kill. I will contact breeder first when home but my priority is to get them safe.
Olly
wish I could help, but like others here too far away - echo eveything the others have said on here. So sorry you've been put in this position.
keyhole kate
Hi There seem to be some of us south who could help but location is the problem is there any way we could form a chichen chain from omleteer to omleteer thereby getting them south to rehome or am I just totally addicted and BARKING? I have a son in the RAF currently at RAF Cosford (Telford/Wolverhampton) and has his home in Derby I know he would do anything he could to help in the chain! Perhaps I need to get out more ? Egluntyne
If you can get them to Sheffield I'll take them......I am working on and off all week so can't come and collect.
..lay a little egg for me
Same problem as everyone else...would love them, but too far away and also going on hols for 3 weeks v soon. I just can't believe your SIL would consider letting them go in the field!!! She certainly doesn't deserve to have animals with an attitude like that. They would return to her garden at night and be looking for their home and then a fox or something would have them...how could she stand the thought of that??? I am SO sorry you have been put in this difficult position. I really hope you can find a solution.
Faye&Ant
I can feel how furious you are. I was shocked at when you said your SIL said she would release them into a field at 17 weeks - they are just babies. I really dont want to take on anymore but I do have seperate accomodation that I can use as an emergency if you are really desperate for them to be taken. I work full time but do have Wednesday off this week so if things get really desperate, please pm me.
beach chick
poor you, but those are lucky chooks to have you around. as for your sil... words fail me. just a thought, but if you want to keep them, could you get a rabbit hutch or something to keep them in til you can integrate them with your others? not ideal, but they are still quite small, so would probably settle quite quickly. if you post a neck-wringing (of the SIL) photo, I'll look!! Gallina
It's not so much the fact that she has changed her mind about keeping hens that is offensive, but the fact that she was more interested in getting her money back quickly on the Eglu than rehoming her hens.
