Old Speckled Hen
Last night I put the hens to bed. All four were in their run, they free-range all day, so I shut them up having their last feed and went back half an hour later to shut the pop hole. I usually check that they're all there but did'nt bother as I had seen them all in the run. This morning at 5am there was an awful din .... crowing!! On opening the pop hole out popped FIVE birds ... one a red cockerel. Needless to say he wouldn't let me catch him. They busied themselves round the garden quite amicably for a while before the invader hopped/flew over the fence and disappeared. STRANGE !!!! What do I do if he comes back tonight? Ain't Nobody Here
Why oh why aren't you one of the Omleteers with an eglu webcam . That would have been riveting viewing and would have definitely beat Big Brother's viewing figures (not hard these day, I hear!) . Although I suppose you wouldn't have been watching them anyway so would have missed the whole thing .
Old Speckled Hen
No sign of him tonight but I think I may have tracked down where he came from. Farm about a mile away has a free range flock with four cockerels. O hasn't a clue whether one is missing but says she wouldn't be surprised. Pity.... my four were looking forward to another visit. He is a very handsome chap!!!! Isn't it funny that he must have been in the coop waiting otherwise I would have seen him when I put my chooks to bed.
