Ms Marple
Crikey! Hands up if you work in a school/education in some form or another. I didn'texpect to find so many on here.
Janty
There's loads of us. I was surprised but someone posted a thread earlier in the year asking what everybody did for a living and there were so many nutcases (oops, meant to say teachers) that came out of the woodwork. Chickvic
I'm back on Tuesday and my DD and DS don't go back till Thursday. My other 'kids' are in on Wednesday. I don't think we had a summer either!
Janty
Maybe if we all convince our headteachers tomorrow / whenever that we haven't had a summer then we could all get another six weeks off? Maybe not!
Guest
I already need to ask for a day off to attend a funeral. Not the easist thing to mention on my first day - no date yet for the funeral either as she died abroad so nothing could be booked until she was brought home. Still before we know it it'll be Christmas!

Guest
Errrm look at the time and wonder how this is for optomism. Couldn't sleep. Decided to get up and write the stupid database homework quizzes, realised I couldn't be less inspired by a topic or a reason so didn't do it. If I have to give online quizzes for homework on databases then I am the wrong person for the job - I couldn't do that to the kids! If they HAVE to have homework I can find something more inspiring than death by multiple choice - even if it does mark itself!
Cate in NZ
Good luck to all of you, students and teachers returning to school this week. Special thoughts and hugs to all those young people starting school, changing school or moving onto 6th form or college My 2 darlings really haven't had a summer holiday at all... left school in the UK in June, started school in NZ 1 week later . They're waiting, impatiently, for summer hols in late December/ January

lizinsa
Me! I'm starting a primary PGCE course and register today and start on Wednesday Have wanted to be a teacher for years, but now it's becoming a reality I'm getting a tad concerned and anxious . I must admit it's not helped by people telling me how hard the forthcoming year will be GOOD LUCK to everyone else!
AnnieP
Oh, good luck Lizzy! It will be a breeze. There are so many teachers on here too.. You can come and vent your spleen with us any time. I am in all this week doing timetables, admin, inducting two new members of staff (and on the forum ). Two training days on Wednesday and Thursday, then the ankle biters return on Friday ... One day to whip them into some kind of shape, lay down the laws, put the fear of God into them and all systems go for Monday and a good year of learning! Can't wait. I LOVE this time of the year. My favourite part is standing in an upstairs classroom (Big old Victorian school), watching the mums crying out the front as they drop off all the littlies on their first day... The tiddlers come in with a hop and a skip usually, and even those who wobble a bit at first are soon smiling.... Unlike mums who no doubt spend much of the day worrying and wiping away tears. Good luck everyone! 7 weeks until half term.
little chickadee
My son starts back tomorrow but my daughter is off until Wednesday. She's starting Middle school and I think she's excited! She certainly has been, but it's bound to be a bit scary too! She has the teacher she wanted but no girlfriends in the same class as her. Fingers crossed she has a lovely time. chickencam
My YD goes back on Wednesday into yr5, she had just had a drastic hair cut about 12 inches of hair gone DS goes back for yr8 on Thursday and hopefully he will get on with it this year, he had a bit or a mixed year in yr7 but I think that he is better organised and motivated this year. ED starts yr10 also on Thursday and is already having the jitters about her GCSE's I do wish she would keep the worry until things actually happen Good luck all you teachers rather you than me
Seagazer
Arrgh!! I've only just got back from holiday today and YS is back at school tomorrow going in Year 6 - he's already had a fit because I booked him into the dentist tomorrow at 2. Whilst on holiday we had to see a lovely Turkish doctor as he had raging tooth ache (don't ask why we didn't see a dentist ) I've cancelled the appointment for one on the 9th (apparently he would like to try to get 100% attendance certificate - never managed one so far). He has his 11+ in a couple of weeks so hopefully he won't stress too much. Talking of stress his older sister has just come back from France after doing a recce of where she is supposed to be working in a couple of French schools as part of her french degree - only she has decided she doesn't want to do it, can't stand french any more and would rather spend the time with her boyfriend...... Yikes how to talk her into this one is going to be interesting. She will be 21 in October and the summer has gone before I could arrange a pre 21st party. She had an 18th so I don't feel too bad, well I do really So good luck to all teachers, students and parents. I know I'm in for a bumpy ride. ubereglu
Me! I'm starting a primary PGCE course and register today and start on Wednesday Good luck with that! My sister completed hers this year and it's her first day as a teacher at a school in Burnham-I really don't know how she got across Basingstoke yesterday for her connection as she had 4 hefty bags and still didn't think she had everythings! I go into Year 11 on Thursday, I'm not that nervous...for me I'm glad that it's the final year of doing so many exams. At least at College I'll be doing things I want to do and as I'll be taking less subjects, they'll be fewer exams!
rachel19
Yep fewer exams at A'level then you hit uni and it gets worse again I had 9 exams during June and some of them were horrid! Thankfully I've still got just over a month before I go back to uni - it has its perks
Tina C
My eldest son starts school on Thurs . His young brother is going to miss him so much in nursery. Even whilst he was off at home with shingles he was asking for his older brother. At least I'll get some one to one time now with my youngest which I've never had. I just know on Thurs morning I'm going to have floods of tears from my eldest. It took him ages to settle into Kindergarten and now he's got to go through it all again with big school and he is only going to know 1 other boy in his class . Try not to worry - it may be a completely different experience at 'big school'. I was dreading it as my girl cried and clung on to me every time I left her at her childminder and then nursery. She only knew one other in her class too. On her first day at school (after being totally unmoved either way beforehand) she got up at 6 and put her uniform on ready to go - and she was on half-days at first and it happened to be afternoons.... And she loved absolutely everything about school. Going through it again now as she has firdt day at junior school tomorrow. She has gone to bed declaring that she is very excited - so fingers crossed. Its the teachers I feel sorry for - I keep forgetting L's new teacher's name and they have to remember 30 children in their own class as well as the other 60 in the year, on top of everything else. Right I am off to label new clothes, shoes, pens etc.....

AnnieP
I practise daily. So, how were everybody's first days? Lots of Kleenex consumed?
BeckyBoo
We're off school shoe shopping today which will be HELL! Massive queues no doubt, oh well. Going to go through all their uniform oday to see what they've got and haven't got, get the labelling pen out, then they're back on Friday - daft day to start if you ask me but there you go. Smallest boy starts playschool next week as well, I shall really miss him even though it's only two days a week, but I think (hope) he's going to love it. I have LOVED having the children off, I wish I was disciplined enough to home educate so they were home all the time. But mine LOVE school, so I suppose I should be grateful for that. They're really looking forward to going back to school. Hope everyone elses first days went well. Mrs B
