Strictly come dancing

Recommended Posts

I wondered what had happened as I was hopping between Strictly and the Xtra Factor and when I switched back over at 2130 to see the dance-off , it had finished instead of 2140. so perhaps the final 3 have something to thank John Sergent for :lol::lol:

I did actually enjoy Lisa last night, but was a bit bemused at the marking(all the 10's) when they mentioned quite openly about mistakes that had been made in the routines.

Perhaps I'm just being grumpy as I've got up much earlier than I usually would on a Sunday

It was due to the fact the two girls had the same number of points

A statement issued following Saturday's live show said: "Due to the unprecedented outcome of the judges' vote... the audience vote could not have saved one of our couples from the dance off.

"We took the decision that all the votes cast tonight should stand and be carried through to next week's final.

"So the audience has had the usual chance to vote on the performances of all our semi-finalists. All the votes cast tonight will be rolled over. Tonight's vote has been independently verified."

Fancy that!

It will make the final a bit more exciting.

Camilla needs to smarten up her choreography. I didn't think it was as exciting as the other dancers last night.

I agree - she has let Tom down a couple of times in the last few weeks with unexciting or substanceless choreography - the celebrities can only dance what they are given. Lets hope she improves for the final next week :?

Thats exactly what we said in our house. The girls danced better than Camilla and Tom but it was Camilla's choreography and the choice of the jive that let them down. Rachel was obviously going to do well having Vincent choreograph the Tango but I don't think that their smooth was special at all. Lisa IMO danced the best last night, I liked her Tango better than Rachel's and the quickstep was lovely.

Both of Camilla's routines were a bit cheesy  and the Tango did not have enough kicks or flicks but I liked the story.

I agree that Lisa was the best dancer overall this week, though I loved Rachel and Vincent's Argentine Tango, which was bound to be FAB-U-LOUS!

I also feel that Poor Tom did suffer from the choreography. I still voted for him and I'm glad he gets the chance for the final. Arlene explained the reasoning behind their decision again on BBC breakfast TVtoday, so I'm not confused any more.

I still would prefer Tom to win, but don't really mind if one of the girls does, because they really are good. :D

Everyone seems to be seriously getting theit knickers in a twist about what happened.

The final will be more fun with three than two and most people would probably vote for the same person again anyway, so what's the problem.

I am more worried about whether or not I will be able to watch it. We are away in a cottage in Wales and my Mum and Dad are coming over in the afternoon and are yet to decide if they will stay for tea. They have no TV and disaprove of a TV being on when they are around :anxious: I don't watch a lot of telly but I love strictly.

I watched it on iplayer last night while I was ironing - couldn't decide whether the voting thing was due to John pulling out, or whether it was strategic - perhaps they decided that to chuck anyone out at this stage would be unpopular, so they'd do a big build up for next week by putting all three couples through.. guaranteed to boost viewing figures for next week!

Cynical, moi?

I loved Lisa's Argentinian Tango :D

I suspect the Beeb were delighted with the way the judges vote turned out as it gave them an excuse to put all three through to the final. I agree with the reasoning that the public could not have saved Tom from the dance off so any votes for him would be wasted, however, they should have said that before the phone lines opened because we don't know how many people had worked out the situation and so did not vote for Tom anyway. As the votes will be carried forward to next week, won't that make it unfair on him (or alternatively, people didn't work that out and voted in droves to save him without realizing it was pointless and so he will have an unfair advantage? They should not have allowed the phone lines to open at all. Surely they must have known that it could happen???

On the subject of the dancing, I agree with everyone else who said that Camilla's choreography was not up to scratch. I loved both girls' tangos and felt that without the fancy footwork, Tom's tango was just a nice story. Can anyone remember what her tango with Gethin last year was like? Vincent's choreography was amazing...he had a tendency to make things complicated as we saw in the last series, but it is great when it works out. Well done Rachael for being able to carry it off!

The tango isn't Camilla's dance, unlike Vincent. Seems a little unfair that at this stage of the competition the professionals are being judged too so why can't they choose the dances they are world champions in.

Still want Tom to win as I still don't like Brendan, and Rachel has a vacant look in her eye most of the time (just being very sexy and being fancied by Craig and Bruno shouldn't be a reason for winning)

I think both Lisa and Rachel have made amazing improvements but there is something about Lisa that I can't quite put my finger on that I don't like. She danced very well but as mentioned earlier I was confused by the 40 score as the judges said that mistakes were made. Rachel and Vincents Argentine tango was amazing, however, Brendon and Lisa did a good job as well especially as Brendon had not performed the dance before. The professionals know the dances that are included in the series so I am surprised that they don't learn these other dances in preparation!

I understand that Camilla was unwell this week and I agree that there routines were not as good as the others this week. However, I believe that they and Brendon had others do their Argentine Tango choreography.

I voted for Rachel this week - the first time I have voted. I would love her and Vincent to win. :)

Roll on Saturday

I agree completely with this. As soon as the last score was given, OH said, well that is going to much things up. Tom has got to be in the dance off. If and OH of fairly small brain (albeit bigger than mine as I didn't work it out) can suss it out, what were the Beeb thinking of?

OH (he is very into Strictly!!) suggested that they could have given Lisa 3 points as she got four tens, Rachel 2 and Tom 1 and explained that they had to do it like that for all the above reasons

Ooh contraversial. Can you imagine the row that would kick up from Rachel's fans if they had done that.

What I can't understand is that there wasn't time on saturday for a dance off anyway. So I reckon they planned something like this all along. Because if you do the maths, they could all have ended up with 4 points after the public vote if it had gone 1 2 3 with the judges. That would have been even more daft. Or the ones who got 2 and 3 could have ended up with 5 each then dance off with all of them again. :? So there you are.

Looking forward to saturday. :D

I voted and couldn't care less about the money.

Is the money just going into the BBC coffers this year does anyone know as I know it's not going to Children in Need.

according to the BBC website Strictly come dancing FAQ section

This year, in accordance with the BBC code of conduct for competitions and voting, no money from calls made to Strictly Come Dancing will go to charity.

The main focus of fundraising at the BBC has always been the big appeal shows on BBC One and surrounding activity. That continues to be the case. Raising money for charity through premium rate phone calls has only ever been an incidental and occasional activity on BBC programmes.

Although we recognised many viewers enjoyed giving to charity in an incidental way through these phone lines, our main concern was clarity for viewers. The new policy of having just two premium call categories - one capped at 15p for all BBC programmes and the other for any charity appeals - would make it even clearer to audiences what to expect when they interacted with BBC programmes in competitions or votes. As such the BBC does not make any money from phone voting.

You can read more about how the voting and scoring system works on Strictly on our voting information page.

There was time ofr a dance off - it finished 10 minutes early and the Beeb had to fill in with trailers. Not that I noticed at the time - too busy trying to work out why they did it :)

The public have the casting vote whenever people are tied on points which makes the judges scoring in the final is irrelevant when there are only two contestants left. It is because the public have to have their say that they were forced to abandon the dance off on Saturday.

The programme controller (I think it was he) was on It Takes Two yesterday and was saying how they had planned for every eventuality except this one. I find that hard to believe for, as jlo said, it didn't take much brain power to work it out!

However, the final is better with three anyway so I'm happy. One does wonder about the calibre of people they employ at the Beeb at times though! There have been so many cases of poor judgement recently (e.g., the Brand/Ross debacle, the Blue Peter faked phone-in prize winner to name just two).
