AnnieP
She shouldn't have had to do that! At my school we do not do outdoor sports in these temperatures. Just ridiculous! We investigated air con too : Cost: £500,000 for our school! That's more than our annual budget!
Cinnamon
She seems OK - I am keeping a very close eye on her. I wll ask about the fact that she had to do cricket yesterday in that heat.It does seem mad to me......although she also went to sea cadets last night & swam in the river,so she may just be very tired. Annie, our school is brilliant at wasting money,so I may mention the air con. Whats the betting they only install it in the staff room They introduced a podding system last year (thumb scan registration) which cost nearly £20,000 & has just had to be removed as it is not reliable enough. You can't beat goold old roll call registration, apparantly
Guest
I was horrified that my two younger children were outside ALL DAY at school yesterday. It was the Field events sports day, so they practised in the morning and did it properly in the afternoon. 32 degrees here and I think that is outrageous and stupid! Glad it wasn't me though! My car has climate control too and I love to be in it! I'm wondering if I could sit in it at Sports Day (Track events with parents watching) on Wednesday! Probably not! Sheila - I'm a hot water bottle person too (two every night ) but I've only ever thought about cold water bottles, never tried one. I have a ceiling fan blowing on me all night to keep me cool. rachel19
I used to love sports day when it was really hot. We were all out in the sun all day and no one ever had any problems. As long as we all had plenty of water and stuff we were all fine ..........it's a yearly school ritual!!!!!
theherd123
Im in education and work in a new building - no air con anywhere else in school other than my classroom There is a down side though - the air con only blows cold so in the winter i freeze! Lesley
Sheila - I'm a hot water bottle person too (two every night ) but I've only ever thought about cold water bottles, never tried one. I have a ceiling fan blowing on me all night to keep me cool. I use wheat bags in the winter - and I still have them in summer, but chilled I can't sleep with the ceiling fan on because I know it will fly off in the middle of the night and decapitate us both

The Dogmother
I don't like ceiling fans either, no particular reason, just don't like them I have a desk fan in my bedroom in the summer when it's really hot. Rosie has a pink fan in her room
Cate in NZ
I'm with Sheila and Rachel.... I LOVE the hot weather . We simply don't get enough of it, so I'm not going to complain. Work was a bit tedious, we don't have air con.... a NHS owned Health Centre in a fairly deprived part of SE London... instead we have windows that open 2cm at best after a LOT of effort and very attractive metal grilles covering them . My fan is pathetic, simply lazily recirculates already hot, stale air. The diabetic foot checks that I did today were fragrant I have to say Luckily only 2 today But I can cope with all that for the wonderful bonus of sunshine, glorious sunshine when I get home, relaxing in the garden with a cold drink and watching the hens squirm in a dustbath. And if it gets too warm, simply retire inside with a fan and another cool drink Oh, and spoilt brat that I am my car is a convertible I do have air con in it as well, but I'm not sure that I've ever used it. I just get that roof down and I create my own breeze as I drive. Bliss Summer is my absolute favourite season , and right now all my moans are little ones. I'm such a happy, happy bunny But Cookie you do have my sympathies... the tube must be absolute hell at the moment... I think that travelling on that in rush hour in this heat would dampen even my happy summer mood. Horrendous. I hope that they sort it out soon- it'd be cruelty to transport animals in those conditions, yet commuters are expected to do it twice a day, and pay for the privilege
The Dogmother
I'm with you there Kate, I love the heat too. I'd like it if it rained at night and was hot and sunny during the day.

One Man Banned
Can't really complain about the heat too much as I get S.A.D. in the winter and the cold- I really do hate it dark days and all that - euch! I did melt a little at work yesterday it was noted that I looked a little flustered - hardly suprising with a queue out of the door from 6-8pm and NO cars and hearing (I booked this car two months ago...blah de blah,,,,,) - calmy informed these people that it didn't sit in the car park with their name on it for two months and if people brought their cars back on time and to this branch then there wouldn't be a problem! (caring soul aren't I but these folks have just flown in from holidays ) We are the only hire company (out of 4 at the airport) to have air con in the back office which when it all quietened down my colleague and I went out there and cooled off! Could start selling tickets to the other teams though hehehe! The chooks are buried under a hardy shrub in the cool earth and Molly has been getting trips out in the air con'd car - she doesn't do windows!
