That's made me laugh - I can remember my first day at school as if it were yesterday. I took my coat off, and my mum had made a twisty cord to go through the sleeves with my gloves on so I wouldn't lose them, and the teacher said 'oh, how sensible Mrs B...., I wish all the mothers would do that'. Smug look on mother's face - well, I was the 5th one so she'd had some training!

I can't believe children aren't allowed to wear gloves to school!! That's ridiculous.

It's looking lovely here now, but I'm freezing - the wood-burning stove is being fitted today (hurrah!) but the fitters are downstairs with both front and back doors open as they take stuff in and out, angle-grind things and clamber over the roof. I'm staying in the bedroom with the cat!

Oh the gloves/mittens were OK on their own, just not attached to anything else - children could use them to slap other children with - rather a pointless exercise because they could still slap without the gloves if they were that way inclined, but "Ooops, word censored!"ody suggested the chopping off of hands!

Clouding over here - but Cube all clean and spare clean roosting bars done and dusted, old roosting bars washed down and drying in the sun (or rather they were, but the breeze should help), new aubiose put down and the girls have raked it up already! Now for some lunch.

Hi

Well do you remember that coat that your mum bought with the comment.

I know it a bit big but you will grow into it, ha, ha !!

So either you grew to fast and it only fitted a few weeks or a year later it was still

too big.

I remember a duffle coat like the latter and it was cold in our winters when I lived

in Norton on the outskirts of Sheffield.

Wonder if we will ever get those winters back like we used to have...... deep with snow.

:pray::pray::pray::angel::dance::lol:

So the weather here today in Preesall near Blackpool it started with a wet night and a few showers in the morning then became sunny but a sharp cooling wind.

There is no cloud cover at the moment and is cool outside but the hens are warm in their cube within the Henian Castle.

The forecast over here is not good for the weekend but the weather folks have got it wrong before it is meant to be wet and windy.

If so that will dampen those fireworks still to come.

Best regards

Hi Everone

Well very early Sunday morning it was breezy and dry here in Preesall near Blackpool but by about 9.15 am that had all changed.

It started to rain, then became colder and there were hail showers then more rain.

Then wind then got stronger and by mid afternoon it sounded like gale force and also it started to rain again heavily for the rest of the afternoon.

It is still blowing a gale now outside.(01.20 am)

Our hens got out very early is morning but were back in their Henian Castle as soon as it started to rain as they have learnt where it is dry.

They are now all in bed as it is the wee hours of Monday morning as this is being type this up.

Trust hope everyone had a good weekend.

Best regards

I got them from http://www.fireworksarcade.com

I got the basic pack, plus a pack of three ice fountains which were like jets crossed with sparklers. Delivery was dead quick and they were reasonably priced. I think it's going to become a family tradition :D

I just had a look at the sky lanterns. Someone recently let some of these go near me and on the news there were reports of UFO's!! I really like the flower ones - I may have to get some for our garden for next summer.

Hi

What a mixed bag of weather today rain, sunshine ( yes we have seen it ) but the wind has been so cold.

Spend part of the day shopping with my better half, walked the dogs, poo picked. Then laid in some mains to the Henian Castle so they can have a better light in the castle when it is dark and wet or doing something nasty weather wise.

They now got a long life 100 watt bulb low voltage, I have still got some work to do on tidying up the site but there is now a form of daylight to extend the day.

They might get a few xmas decorations now that is sorted.

Well at less I did that work in the dry but ho that wind was cold!!!

Best regards

After a vile two days it was glorious at 8am this morning. Had the girls out free-ranging for a couple of hours whilst I sorted them out and did some garden jobs. :D

I hope to spend some time at the allotments today. That said the cloud is building already.

Hi

Today here in Preesall near Blackpool we have had wall to wall wind. As we live about 400 yards from the sea at times it has been a shoot blasting wind!

We managed to get mains power into the Henian Castle for the girls so now they have a lovely warm glow light so extend their day.

With the corrugated roof having a white inner lining the one energy saving lamp.

The lamp is an 18 watts energy saver bulb rated A for energy and it should last for 8 years!

This bulb equals a 100 watt bulb old style.

It started to rain later on this evening and we have still got the wind.

Glad The Castle was raised 7 inches from the garden as part of the garden was flooded

this morning.

How is the weather with the rest of you?

Best regards

The Henian Castle is 20 ft long by 10 ft wide by 6 ft high.

So the cube fits with no problems inside.

It was a lovely day here too. I spent 5 hours (Yes. FIVE hours  ) clearing up the leaves in the garden. My back aches and I'm shattered but at least it's done now and I got 2 bin bags full to rot down for leaf mould and the girls had a great time free-ranging and helping me in their own special way!:lol:

Hi everyone

Hope you are all managing to let your girls out to get a little bit of free ranging when the weather allows.

Here in Preesall near Blackpool we have tried to do that when ever we can as yet they have not been in the Henian Castle all day yet.

They've had the odd morning in so far but lets face it we are in November. Think we are lucky here as we are sheltered from a lot of the really bad weather by the hills around us.

Here it has been a bit mixed over the last few days we have a dry day followed by a wet one.

But as yet no frost or snow we had the odd hail shower but that is all.

Hope everyone is well and not suffering with any bug that is doing the rounds.

How is the weather with the rest of the UK.

Ian I love your daily weather reports. Keep it up.

Up here BBC radio Cumbria gets reports from about fifteen or so strategically placed listeners so we get a brief description of what they all think of their weather that morning.

Here it's very still, cloudy with some drizzle and quite warm. Chooks are out already.

Hi Everyone

Today the weather here at Preesall near Blackpool has been mixed.

Very early on it was dry this was about 6 am when it was still dark. That was when I put on the electric light which is in the Henian Castle. Allowed the hens out so to extend their day.

Round about 8 am I went to turn their light off and the light rain had started. At 8.30 am their Henian Castle main door was opened but the did not go out. Clever girls as they did not want to get wet!

10 ish I did a poo pick in the garden or should I say a poo rake and this included the leaves and any other debris in the lawn. By then it was very fine rain and warm to hot to have a rain coat on. But by 11 am the rain had stopped and there was blue sky and the sun. The hens were out in the garden enjoying the weather and free ranging.

Poo picked the Castle and the cube but had to change into my crocs as my shoes were wet!

The rest of the day was nice but it clouded over just before 4 p.m and was dark about 5 p.m.

Again the light was put on to extend the hens days and by 6.30 p.m they were all in the cube inside the castle. So the door was closed on the cube, the light off and the large green omlet sheet put up over the netted door.

So you could say the hens went to bed then their bedroom light was switched off and the curtains closed. We always say night, night to them but as yet not read a bedtime story to them!

It is now 10 p.m and there is a breeze outside, so could be a bit breezy tomorrow

(Saturday 14 November). So whether I go sea fishing will depend on the weather.

How has the weather been with the rest of the UK today?

Best regards

Here is the weather as it was in Preesall today.

Well dark at 5.30 am as one of our dogs woke me as she wanted to loo.

Then back to bed.

7 am up again this time to let the hens out of the cube and into their Castle.

8 am it is becoming light and sunny as it was for most of the day but there was a wind

good for drying washing.

Oldest son did a poo pick and later went to The Vue to watch The new Bond Film.

He arrived back much later said he had enjoyed it. Youngest son plays football so they had a good day.

Hens had a nice day free ranging whilst my better half and myself started Christmas presents packing to send around the UK. Still got to sort out Christmas cards.

Toward 4 pm it started to become cloudy then dark again so hens were in bed for about 6 30 pm

So all in all a nice day if just a bit breezy.

Now for me it is almost Sunday so time for bed.

So nite everyone

best regards
