MadMitch
Its snowing like mad here. It's still -4 degrees, I would of thought it was too cold to snow.
Blackrocksrock
Gosh we have a very dull day with rain and the frost has lifted and its now above freezing for the first time in ages and the ground is starting to thaw out. It must be the turn of england and wales to get the harder frost. My friend who is away working has had a burst in her house and her neighbours are dealing with it for her - she has phoned spoken to her neighbours and me wondering if I still have my vax which unfortunately I had sold at a car boot sale or she could have borrowed it. At least it was spotted and stopped before too much damaged occurred. I am glad I dont have to go out to-day and its a day of being inside in the dry - the girls are all lined up on the patio at the sliding glass door as its out of the rain and sheltered. They are pecking at the glass wanting in I think!
The Dogmother
Ardene5 - Lesley wouldn't buy one on principle if it weer orange - she hates the colour. It's my favourite though, and I hate pink which she likes... bit like Jack Spratt, us two! So cold here and all the taps/butts are frozen so the chickens and bunnies got a very quick 'dry clean' and a spritz around with V1 disinfectant. Their water is permanently frozen, so I am bringing the bottles in at night, not that it helps much as they re-freeze as soon as I put them back out and the chooks have a sturdy ceramic bowl of water inside the cube on the roosting bars. I have a watering can in the utility room to top them up whenever I go out. I've stocked up with coal and brought some more logs down from the woodpile to stay by the back door. I reckon that snow is on it's way......
Omletina Kyckling
I have a weather station which mum and dad bought for me last Christmas - it has an anemometer, hydrometer, rain gauge, plus max/min temperatures and wind chill - I think it's fascinating, especially looking back at the history part of it to see when it was coldest etc. My dad has run his own little weather station in Huddersfield for about 5 years now so it's interesting to look at his figures (all in a spreadsheet) to compare each year.... Cinnamon
Just gone midday here & its minus2 The hens poo trays had frozen to the bottom of the cube Hubby & I are off to a gorgeous little pub with the greatest food & HUGE roaring log fires, for a spot of lunch
The Dogmother
The poo trays had forzen solid here too Sarah, although the poo was solid and easy to dump out. You'll have to give me the details of the pub - sounds like the sort of place that we'd like to go to on one of our vivits.
ClaireG
Its very dull and grey here, and we've had a few flakes of snow. Have kept a bamboo cane next to the Eglu to try and break the ice on the glug but it was so frozen this morning i couldn't do it so had to run hot water over the outside to defrost it. susanbb
I've had to break the ice in the glugs 3 times today. It has just been sooo cold.
Lesley
We've had 4" of ice on the ducks pond and the sheeps water - Carl had to take a lump hammer to it all. The hens had almost boiling water poured on to the pipe leading down into the drinker which thawed enough for them to drink. We had to pop into town and were out in a flurry of ice grains but it didn't develop into anything. Ian - there would need to be a much bigger price difference that £2 to entice me to buy an orange one - in fact, I'd rather go without!
Phosphorus
I have just spent most of the day cleaning out my run and cube. Not the best day to pick but it had to be done for many reasons So so cold, not sure of actual temp, but rinsing off the cube parts some of the residue water was freezing before I could dry them off with a towel. My toes are definately going to get chilblains again Still girls don't seem bothered at all by it all. Better go and shut their door just to keep it that way
The Dogmother
We had the ice grains too Lesley, but it didn't amount to anything I have been bringing the girls water in at night... it still freezes when I put it out, but I have also put a sturdy ceramic pot of water on the roosting bars in the cube - I hope that won't freeze. I am topping it all up from a watering can kept in the utility room
