Bron is dying

Recommended Posts

Our top girl Bron is dying. I will be at the vet as soon as they open, and ask for them to be kind and put her to sleep.

I went out yesterday morning and she was in the nest box, so I presumed she was laying. She was in the same place last night, so I could not be sure if she was broody (she never has been before, so don;t know how she reacts when she is - all my other girls behave differently to each other when they are) but my gut feeling was things weren;t quite right. I decided to leave her with the others rather than traumatise her by seperating her.

We know she has a dicky heart as her comb has been blue tinged when she has been energetic this summer and I guessed she would not make the winter, but this is still a complete shock. She won't eat, she won't drink and her comb is mostly dark blue. She is normally incredibly flighty and I can handle her as much as I want now. I checked her over last night and found nothing untoward, although I think her long moult may have taken it out of her. They have nothing but the best but I guess seh is just not that strong. She is my smallest chook yet lays the most enormous eggs, and far too many of them - it was always going to be tough on her. She is inside is a box, covered with a towel to give her some peace.

:(

I am just back from the vets. They are cremating her. I thought it best not to bury her, and also Andy is away and our garden ie heavy clay. It was only £5, so I shall do that as each of my girls pass on.

All the other girls seem well so I am hoping that she was not contagious and it was purely her heart.

thank you for all your kind words
