pistachio
I would absolutely use testers first. I have colour everywhere in my house and everyone loves it even though most of them chicken out when doing their own homes. I would tend towards doing the whole room in the colour you choose unless you have a traditional symmetrical shaped room. Red is a great warm colour - don't be afraid of going for a true red as darker reds can get lost in some lights and end up a bit sludgy - try some tester pots in different areas of the room. My parents have a red room with goldy cream curtains and a chocolate carpet - it's very opulent - great for christmas. I'm more of a chalky colours person but red can be stunning. make sure you put the pics up!
MedusA
I talked about this thread to OH and DD, and now they are both clamouring for the dining room to be painted completely in Farrow and Ball Eating Room Red! So we may be going the whole hog sometime soon. Good luck with the painting Snowy.
Snowy
Done at last!! A reminder, before: After: Have to say, I love it! The cream wall actually looks a bit insipid now with the cream suite next to it, but I think that will improve when the new conker brown suite arrives It's a good job i had the chicken saga to distract me though, OH decided to get help with it: I have to say, young boys and red paint do not mix, but they only got a little bit on the carpet And they have done a very good job! bluekarin
We had a new kitchen fitted (white) and we painted the wall behind the cupboards and the opposite wall in autumn red (B&Q) and the long wall in magnolia, the wall opposite the magnolia has the windows and patio doors so there's plenty of light and I love it! I must admit when we first started to paint I thought it was too dark but after a couple of coats it looks fab! It does look quite dark today but the weather is appalling and we've got a gazebo outside the kitchen windows for the chickens That's exactly the same as what we've done it our kitchen! I was originally going for blue, but then saw a photo of someone else's kitchen and I thought wow, I want that! Snowy, your living room looks great. It is such a warm colour - almost gives you a hug when you look at it. It is such a difficult thing to envisage when you want to try such a bold colour, especially in a living room where everyone can see it. You're very brave having the kids 'help'. Olly
Wow, what a difference! And it really matches well with your stripy chair! (Is that an Ikea Poang by any chance?) Well done you, perhaps I will be braver next time I choose paint.
Lesley
It looks really good - I can't wait to see it with the new suite as well.
miffy
WOW that looks amazing, Only just picked up this thread, its good to see red is such a popular colour. When we did our dining room some months ago we knew we wanted red but werent sure about which wall, odd shaped room, so we did cream walls and bought a real dark red carpet. It certainly makes people comment when they arrive Look forward to seeing the suite in situ.

jlo
Very nice. You must be relieved that it is all done - especially in time for Christmas!
Shirl
It looks fantastic as does the kitchen shot. I was going to paint my kitchen red (well some of it) but we ran out of time before the units were fitted so it ended up magnolia (or something similar) and now I'm thinking it needs to be red. My lounge already has a red breast and the dining room has one or 2 red walls. How embarrassing is that I can't remember! We don't use our dining room often
chickenanne
That looks lovely! I love red, and it makes your room look so cosy and welcoming.
Snowy
Talk about cutting it fine! The new suite arrived this morning so we are all ready in time for Christmas! It looked a bit odd at first - the dark brown makes it look much bigger than the old suite But we still have the same space to move around so it can't be any different! Anyway, here we have (as a reminder) befores: And afters (although difficult to take good pics today due to various children draped over the furniture and toys lying about ) And now I want to make some new cushion covers so i'll be starting on this little pile of fabric as soon as I can! I'm really pleased with it - and the room now smells of leather!
