FORENSICA
Hi everybody! OK, here it the thing. I am a student of Forensic Science course and need for my final year's research project a group of people who are willing to help science with fight against crime. This is a project which is with cooperation with people from forensic labs and therefore the results will be directly relevant to their work. The mission of the project is to get quite a substantial amount of samples taken from worn t-shirts (tops, shirts,..) which I will then analyze. What I would be looking for are chemicals deposited on you during the day of wearing. The problem I have is to get as varied group of people (by job, leisure activities, place of living,..) as possible and hence I thought of you lot . I do realize that there would be a cost of postage involved, but I promise that the tops will not be harmed in any way and therefore I can then wash them and give them to charity. Please PM if you would be happy to participate. I am just trying to find out if this could be the way how to get enough material so it would be scientifically and statistically significant. Thanks so much for reading! Edited November 29, 2008 by Guest

Snowy
I'm sure I could manage that (in the interests of science!) PS Just noticed your signature - looks like congratulations are in order? Another Omlet baby on the way!

FORENSICA
Thanks so much for the replies! I am so happy that you are all so keen to help! Thanks What will happen is, that I will see how many people I can get to participate this way. Then I will suggest that to my supervisor and then if she will be happy with it, then I will send you all email with instructions how to send the clothes to me. There will be a little questionnaire (anonymous) so I can get a bit of background where the top was during the day worn. Yes, you spotted it well about the little one. We are so excited, being it the first one! It should arrive in mid January, so I still have some time to spend in the lab and get ready for the big arrival. Karen & co.
How interesting Would our DNA be kept on a data base somewhere? (just incase I decide to turn into a mass murderer ) Karen x
BeckyBoo
How iteresting, what a fab course to be on! Would you like a low-baller and I can put in one of little boys t-shirts? Or one of OH's garments, they'd be a bit fascinating to analyse, keep you busy for a while!! Mrs B
little cluckers
Count me in too - you could also have one of middle sons shirts after he's played rugby, you'd have to open the package in a controlled environment though!!
Gamebird
Sounds fascinating. Count me in. Unfortunately, I am not a mass murderer so my T-shirt/top could be a little bit boring.
bokbokbok
When you say *chemicals* do you need jobs that use chemicals in particular or are would everyday things like walking in the street and getting car fumes on you be enough? I go to work and sit at a desk, take photos in a studio and come home - there wouldn't be any chemicals involved usually. . . If you want me - I'll do it - can't promise anything more than chicken tikka sauce smeared down it from lunch time though! Wouldn't it be GREAT if Omlet sponsored this for you - sent a tee shirt to everyone who took part and when you sent them on to charity there would be hundreds of Omlet shirts round the world! freddie
end you a t shirt from a day at work within a school kitchen etc!! we do use approved chemicals, so you can have a ball trying to identify them! I'll make sure I clean an oven or flood the floor(as happened on Tuesday) to make it a challenge!!
FORENSICA
How interesting Would our DNA be kept on a data base somewhere? (just incase I decide to turn into a mass murderer ) Karen x No DNA!!! Under no circumstances I would take any biological (including DNA) material from your clothes do not worry! I am after chemicals and particles which are transferred to your clothes during normal daily activities I know that it might seem weird but there is a very good reason behind this madness

Bokbokbok, boring is great I need the most varied assortment of samples from all backgrounds. The trick is that even when we are not aware of it, there is stuff being stuck at us all the time from pollution, work environment,... You all would be my control group which will provide me with very important data for comparison to data gathered from another experiment and allows assessment of its significance. Ain't Nobody Here
I'm intrigued by this too! I'm sure I could find a t-shirt I'm happy to lose! Would we have to wear the garment as the outer layer? (Bit cold for t-shirt alone at the moment ).
