G and B Posted December 27, 2008 Share Posted December 27, 2008 Our wonderful, vivacious Gingernut Ranger, Evadne, had to be put to sleep this morning. It appears she had lived with a tumour for the past few months, and had outwardly appeared fine until Christmas Day, when she came out into the garden, but stood in one spot for a long time. She spent yesterday in the eglu and I took her to the vets this morning, where they diagnosed quite a large tumour and thought it best if she went to sleep. Hilda is going to need some youngsters to mother, we will organise in the new few days, when the grief is not so raw. God speed, Evadne, we had a wonderful time with you. The other day our smallest chicken stood in the same place for ages, but at the end of the day when we got back we saw she'd laid an egg and assumed she'd just been standing still for that. Could it have been she was poorly...? Keep an eye on her, if they are newbie layers they can do some strange things before an egg pops out, especially if they are "delivering" a softie, hope she's fine though Sad news re Evadne {{{hugs}}} to you and Hilda, and the new littlies you get to keep her company. G and B Posted December 28, 2008 Author Share Posted December 28, 2008 Thank you all for your kindness. Hilda was terribly confused when she went to bed last night. She wandered into the eglu, fully expecting to find Evadne in there, and came out again rapidly. She went back in and came out again three times before settling for the night. Needless to say, she has had extra treats and cuddles today. Shortly before Christmas I bought some cute coasters, little did I realise how poignant the wording would become, but I share it with you, together with a picture of Evadne on her favourite pot.
