chelsea
hi, my husband catches chickens at chicken farms throughout Devon and Cornwall ( *whispers* for food ) and he rescued 3 cute little free range chooks this morning and brought them home. Apparently they hadnt made the aqquired (*whisphers* "eating weight") and he felt sorry for them as they would have to had been just killed at the farm this morning. knowing how much I love chickens and how I have been badgering him for months about eglu and chickens he suprised me when I woke at 6am this morning! 2 beautiful white ones and 1 brown 1, we have a temporary wooden coup (yuk) and they are out in our garden. Yippeeeee....very proud mummy now!

theherd123
What a wondeful way to surprise you! As for names hmmm... a lot of people go for themed names. How about flowers; - daisy, poppy & rose, etc or you could go for something a little off the wall like crisps; - wotsit, quaver & disco! Egluntyne
We once had three guinea pigs called Wilson, Kepple and Betty, named by my lovely late father, after a music hall act. They did a sand dance. (The act, not the guineas.) Good names for a trio.

Guest
What a lovely way to woken! All I got at 6am this morning was a 3 year old wanting her breakfast, and Tigger the one eyed cat nuzzling in with a wet nose for a cuddle.
AnnieP
All I got at 6am this morning was Tigger the one eyed cat nuzzling in with a wet nose for a cuddle. Are you sure it was his nose Shona? Oh please don't start me off again.... I still have hysterics about your poor old Tigger every time I think of him......

At least they weren't in your bed Cool, do you have any pictures? This could go terrribly wrong - an OH who has spare chickens for a living and doesn't curb new chickens appearing

chelsea
thanks for all your replies!! Its nice knowning that everyone is as barmy as me! (meant in a nice way people!).....I will send pics as soon as I can. I have been in contact with "chickadee" - see 2nd hand eglu threads, as she lives in Devon and has a 2nd hand red elgu for sale, fingers crossed will be seeing it next week. We named them SAGE, ONION AND CHESTNUT (chesnut is the brown one), but sadly during the night ONION passed away she didnt look right yesterday in the afternoon, the other 2 were really lively and onion was just sat still, we thought he might be cold so we brought him in the kitchen and put him in a cosy straw lined box....but she died. At least though she had a peaceful, dignified end though. (would have been different if hubby hadnt saved them). The dog has been running up to the run all day, not barking - just watching. We have put some nice logs in their run and they love perching on them, I put a ball in too - I can tell these chicks are really gonna be spoilt! Spoke to my dad tonight (he's a CHICKEN HATCHERY MANAGER), as they are only 6-7 weeks old it will be few months before they start laying yet. Gawd help me, dad has thousands of cute baby chicks with him all day....i'll have all the waifs and strays here soon! Cant wait to hear everyone else's chicken stories on here, lots of advice and friendly people - I dont need to look elsewhere! thanks!
