I can't remember when I last saw a sight quite so hideous as the half naked geriatric with waist length hair in the Swiftcover insurance ad.

 

Turns out it is Iggy Pop.

 

I'd post a link but don't want to offend.

 

Nothing would induce me to use that insurance company now.

I saw this ad a couple of nights ago and did a double take Does he really need money that much, I would have thought he was mega rich. After seeing Jonny Rotton advertising butter I thought 'celebs' couldn't get any lower, but I was wrong

What made them think that seeing him prancing about half naked would induce us to buy their product . Half the population probably don't even recognise him .

Am I the only one who knows Iggy Pop as being topless. I don't think I've ever seen him fully clothed. It's part of who he is so presumably they went with that. why insurance though I have no idea.

I hadn't a clue who he was, had seen the advert and been a bit bemused by it. I would probably still have been bemused by it if I had known who he was!

I'm thinking the people who put the ad together are trying to be ironic, Iggy Pop and Insurance Jonny Rotton and clean country living They'll have Amy Winehouse advertising Shake 'n Vac next

I refuse to buy that butter. The Sex Pistols were sell-outs from the start. Malcolm McLaren admits as much. I don't like the insurance ad, but laugh at it in incredulity.

 

Iggy is amazing in a film called Coffee and Cigarettes. He's playing himself but not playing to type. I know that doesn't make sense. Watch it and you'll see. It's a very good film. Quite arty, not much point, but very enjoyable indeed.
