Yolky
I looked out the window and I could see something flapping at the end of the garden and so we went to look and the wind has blown over my walk in run. The eglu was off its stand and upside down but luckily the girls were safe inside it still, thank the lord. We just had to flip the run right over to make sure it didn't get blown any more. I am here in floods of tears and frighted as to what we are going to find in the garden in the morning after a night of this
Guest
Sorry to hear this. Is there anything you could put on the run to weigh it down? Or Would you be better off just putting the Eglu on the ground and keeping the door shut - no run required overnight that way.
Yolky
I am shaking and I feel sick
Yolky
I have brought the eglu and girls up by the back of the house in a secluded spot where the wind cannot get it so they are safe tonight. My husband is up the garden now trying to secure things. I am going to go back out now to help.
Redwing
So sorry Yolky, it must be very windy as your run is very sturdy. Hope its all ok in the morning x
Ain't Nobody Here
How frightening . I hope you manage to secure it so you don't have to worry any more .
Yolky
We are going to have to look into securing it ANH. We thought it would be ok where it is as there are lots of houses around us so it isn't too open. It is also massive and so heavy (4m x 2m) The roof is completely ruined now. We had to turn it onto the roof as it was on its side and the wind was gusting into the roof and making it move. There is broken plastic all over the place out there
Blackrocksrock
goodness how terrible = it must really be bad as your run is really sturdy and hope it manages to be sortable tomorrow and glad the girls are all ok.
fowlbird
what a horrible thing to happen - I'd have thought it was strong/heavy enough to withstand any sort of wind. Made us think more about how to reinforce our run - when it gets built...
surferdog
I had posted earlier but seems to have disappeared! Hope you're ok Yolky and thank you for the warning. Our set up is similar to yours - walk in run and eglu on a platform - and it's very blowy here. We've just moved the eglu down onto the ground. Glad to hear your girls are ok and hope you manage to sort it all out in the morning.
Cinnamon
Will you be able to claim on your household insurance to get it fixed? I hope so You should be able to fix it by setting in long screws drilled through those slabs, if they are cemented to the ground.
Ardene5
Hi So sorry to here about your walk in run. It is so sad when something like this happens as you see all your work go to nothing. There are several ways forward, look where the prevailing wind comes from then when re site the run in the lee of a building if possible to protect the run. Or replace the roof with a metal roof which will add extra weight to the run. Or put caravan ties over the run to hold it in place. What ever you do you could say that this replacement run is the Mark II version. Hope this helps. Best regards Ian & Valerie
Ygerna
Oh that must have been horrible for you, and your girls. I can't believe how the wind is blowing here either, I hope my girls are ok. Its a terrible night. Hope that tomorrow shows that the damage is not as bad as you fear.
Cooks
so sorry Yolky, the wind is getting so bad here tonight as well!
millymollymandy
Glad your girls are ok bet it gave them a shock! It's really windy here too and I keep looking out of the window to check my eglu hasn't blown over. I'm debating whether to make a dash outside to remove the shade as it's flapping like a sail and i'm worried it is going to pull the run over or scare the chickens. Do chickens get scared or am I just overreacting a bit?
TAJ
Hopefully it will be covered by the house insurance, but it is very windy and scary at the moment - I have locked all mine away for the night - no doors open tonight! Tracy

Egluntyne
Blimey! I am so sorry, and find it hard to believe! I hope you can sort something out quickly. It never occurred to me in a million years that such a thing could happen.
Chickvic
What an awful thing to happen. Glad the girls are ok and hope you manage to get your run sorted.
Cooks
I've just spoken to DH about it, and he says the wind gets under the roof and whoosh!.. ours is screwed down into the railway sleepers at the moment so it should be ok.. lets hope so, I have locked the girls away in the eglu safe and sound.
Yolky
Egluntine I could hardly believe it when I looked out the window. It is soooo heavy. Screwing it to sleepers is a good idea but aren't they expensive? Is there something as heavy but cheaper? The slabs aren't concereted down. Or we may have to re-site but where they are is the best place for them in the garden as our garden has lots of sloapy bits in and so it is hard to find somewhere suitable.
Cooks
we already had the sleepers so I am not sure what they cost to buy. We are removing them with the run overall soon, and DH is securing the run into concrete in the ground. Ours is sited in the corner of our garden so somewhat protected, but the wind's been wailing out there tonight
BeckyBoo
It never occurred to me in a million years that such a thing could happen. Me neither! That must have been some wind, I was worried about mine when I read your post last night as it was so windy here last night it kept ED awake. Hope the damage isn't too bad when you go out in the daylight and that your hens aren't too traumatised. It's still and quiet here this morning so far although it's not supposed to last, hope you have a positive day with your chooks BeckyBoo
Jules.
Oh I'm sorry My run is on a skirt of slabs which aren't concreted in, but are not going to move at all. My friend who built my run told me that it would be needed to be fastened down in case the wind caught it ( I never dreamt it would move, like you didn't). He used "L" shaped brackets screwed into the wood & the slabs, you can see one here I think there are about 3 brackets on each run side. Groovychook
I'm so sorry Yolky I hope everything is okay this morning. It was horrendously windy here last night. I can't believe it picked up your run though... it looks so sturdy! Best of luck with the clean up. x
