I am not sure what is best for the nest area so wondered what will with the vote!?

I mostly put aubiose in mine but with the cold I have added shredded paper on top but as I could only put 1 answer, it's Aubiose as I think thats the best.

I am going to be using Aubiose once the small amount of straw I have is all gone. One less thing to buy and cart home and aubiose makes it easier to poo pick as my girls seem to like sleeping in the nest box so there is always at least one nest to change every morning.

Another vote for Aubiose here. I have used Nedzbed, which looks like chopped straw but is actually chopped oilseed rape stalks, but it is not as absorbent as Aubiose. Aubiose makes the daily poo pick a doddle.

I shred any paper that has my personal details on it, use it in the nest box until it is soiled (usually needs changing each day and then compost it with the contents of the poop tray. It gives me some satisfaction to think that I am protecting my details in this way

Ticked shredded paper but also put in straw, about 50 50 with paper on the bottom. Find the paper gets a bit damp so wouldn't want to use just paper but use it to make the straw last longer.

Aubiose - brilliant stuff, use it in the poo trays too on top of newspaper.

Dust extracted wood shavings as a base and then fine dust extracted hay on top. This makes for a very soft and comfortable place for the hens to lay their eggs. I have heard that straw encourages red mite although I have no personal experience of that.

Auboise used here too..... No don't wet it. Drier the better.
