:D:D:D Hello everyone :!:

Two weeks ago today I was terrified I wouldn't be back on the Forum........however...........

with 'Heart'felt thanks to my friend Mimi who called the pompiers (firemen who also act as paramedics in the first instance) and our nearest hospital who sent a team of a doctor and two nurses from 20 miles away.....I am here to tell the tale :!:

Now, this bit might be boring, I promise I won't be offended if you switch to the latest 'Omlet must have':wink: Sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin.....

Some of you might remember that we came to the UK to see the kids before Christmas and I ended up in Coventry Hospital with supposedly chronic bronchitis, ? asthma,

? emphysema (this is what is written on my discharge summary) with a discharge plan from the hospital to 'escalate medication'. This included steroids and several asthma related inhalers. They also sent me home to my sons', where there are two littleuns, with the Norvirus (?sp) bug having closed the ward I was on :!: Not nice :vom::!:

Anyway, finally got back home at the beginning of Jan., religiously took my medication as prescribed (even bought a portable nebuliser) and steadily got worse and worse and worse. I was finding it almost impossible to walk even a few steps without getting totally breathless, couldn't even walk downstairs, had to plan in advance if I wanted to get to the loo and certainly couldn't go out and collect the eggs :boohoo::wall:

Remember, at this time I was still under the impression I was suffering from a broncitis/asthma problem as diagnosed by the hospital and was still religiously taking the medication thinking that 'This has got to get better soon ' Did it heck

Two weeks ago today I was so frightened at my inability to breathe I phoned my friend for help. She arrived within a couple of minutes, took one look at me, said 'Pompiers, oxygen' and that is almost all I remember of that day :?

The rest is a bit of a blur, but it involved several firemen and one firewoman, a doctor and two nurses, the OH and Mimi in the house (so I have been told) for around two hours while they stabilised me...apparently my heart was doing well over twice its' normal rate....

until they carted me off in the ambulance with the blue light and the wah wah :!:

At the hospital in Vichy they immediately took a chest x-ray, found an enlarged heart, fluid on the lungs and in addition to that, I had legs that resembled tree trunks

Anyway, to cut a long boring story a bit shorter, had medication to slow heart, saw cardiologist daily, saw my appointed general doctor who told me the medication I had been so vigilant in taking had caused my heart to speed up to the extent where it couldn't cope :!: Told me with my heart condition (didn't know I had one  ) I should never have been prescribed steroids, ventolin or briconyl AND on top of that I DID NOT HAVE BRONCHITIS :wall::think::doh::doh::doh:

Couldn't eat for a few days but when I could, the food was excellent. Daily, personal choice

of 4 courses for lunch and 3 for dinner.

Now on heart tablets, diuretics....my legs don't look like tree trunks anymore  and I can wear normal shoes which I haven't done for ages, only crocs , I can walk up and downstairs etc. etc. and I haven't felt so well in a long, long time. On oxygen all night, every night, (machine delivered the day I came out of hospital) and have the phone number for my cardiologist and my hospital doctor to ring at any time day or night if I'm worried about anything  NO...I am not a privaate patient :!:

I cannot fault the French health care system and given the choice if I am going to be ill, I want to be ill here :!:

THE END

Very many thanks for all your good wishes, they are appreciated so much.

Jackiex

Edited to say I will now be quiet.....I've got 5 pages of red stars to catch up on :!: and the hospital DID say don't do too much too physical too soon.....so I shall take their advice

thank goodness they diagnosed you in time! I'm not going to comment about the NHS as I'll start ranting.

Keep well and take it easy, it's no wonder they honour the firemen/women during the celebratons on the 14th July is it? ;)
