chickencam
My ED would like a job but it seems that very few places employ under 16s these days. Any suggestions of chains of shops etc that do would be great. She is 15 and will be 16 in September.
abwsco
I don't think any will because of her age. DD's found that when they were trying.
Nicola H
It is not very easy to find a Saturday job at 15 all my son could find at this age was pot washing or a paper round, he chose pot washing and now he is 17 has been promoted to assistant chef........ BarbaraJ
Yes my kids have had the same problem, ermm the most likely jobs are the cash in hand type jobs often got through word of mouth from friends etc
jackiepoppies
Like BarbaraJ says. My DD put frozen food in carrier bags for a market stall
Falkor
I pot washed from the age of thirteen but this was for a family friend at her seaside cafe. Was also cash in hand I really enjoyed working there and I think is builds character! Also intorduced my to drunken people as it was on the pier and connected to the bar so I learnt early that there is nothing attractive about a drunken girl so never really drank as a youngster
ubereglu
TBH there isn't a lot out there at all at the minute. I'm 16 and am vaguely trying to find a job, but they're just not there. My plan was to try and get a job for over the long summer holiday I'll have, but it's not looking good, especially as the money I do have is earning tuppence interest for me. Just gets me feeling really depressed.
Cinnamon
Devons going to try for a weekend job in the new sainsburys thats opening in a month or so - she is 16 at the end of this month. At the moment we pay her for extra chores around the house & garden, & she has also been asked about a bit of babysitting for the lady over the road. freddie
A friend of mine, who is a full time teacher with 3 kids (lives in Devon) wanted someone to cut her grass for 2 yrs and couldnt find anyone.... just a thought. Also, general cleaning, as long as a parent checks out the "customer " first, there are some odd ones out there. How about making cards, and dropping them by a boxful around local pre schools, etc at £1.00 each, sort of thing?
Lewis
I'd say a paper round would be her best bet. When I was 15/16 I used to have a paper round, work on a childrens farm on Saturdays and occasionally paint scenery on Sundays, now I've realised I'd rather have the sleep Does she know what type of career she'd like to go into, as she could also try finding work experience placements related to that, and you never know, they might like her and offer her a Saturday job. Cooks
I wouldn't allow my children to have a paper round, I would rather 'invent' a job for them and pay them myself. Paper rounds always seem like slave labour to me I have a 13 year old boy who is asking if it's ok for him to find a job at the moment
kitbag
I am 15, but am 16 in August! It's really annoying because all my friends are 16 and work together in Sainsburys!! I have been everywhere and asked, but nowhere will have you unless you have a national insurance number!
craftyhunnypie
Sell eggs & jam. I'm a lot older than 16 (double, plus a bit), but I have a table of eggs & jam outside my gate at weekends & the table in the porch in the week, when we are not around so much. It works well. Our postman has a regular order, so we place them out with his name on every Thursday & he pops his money in the box. Regulars get to know that my table is always in the porch. I use my money to pay for the upkeep of my chooks & to buy fruit & sugar for my jam. But a 15 / 16 year old may want to use this as a small income. If anyone has a cockerel - how about selling fertile eggs? If artistic, paint some canvasses & ask them to be hung in cafes / bars with your prices on. Sell unwanted stuff on ebay. Grow some bedding plants & make up some painted recycled cans later in the year with plants in to sell. Babysitting, carwashing, dog walking / pet sitting are good little earners for young people & teach responsibility. Boots take on Xmas staff, pay well & you get a discount of 20% on their own brands! But you have to be 16. Emma.x
Snowy
My son did dog walking and babysitting before he started college
Ardene5
Hi Everyone Have you asked around if there are any farms / small holdings which have egg laying hens who require help e.g egg picking or well you know. We have supply farms around us and they are always after help. Hope this help. Best regards Ian & Valerie
craftyhunnypie
Especially pheasant egg collecting! Farmers will pay gladly for help with this. There is also the egg washing too, prior to racking up ready for the incubator. Emma.x
Bassett
My niece is 15 and does a weekend/holiday job in Sainsbury's as a checkout girl. She said that Sainsburys is one of the few places that will employ 15 year olds.
