Barkisland
Aubiose for me, absorbent, always looks clean, chooks seem to like it. Lots of forum members seem to recommend it, so that's good enough for me.
Egluntyne
Aubiose every time for me. Hay is not a good idea as it is a cause of crop impaction, as is straw, to a slightly lesser degree.
westleigh
i was told not to use hay as it gives off spores when damp which is bad for chooks
Mrs Frugal
I use wood shavings sold for use with rabbits and the girls love them.
Aggienator
Another Aubiose vote. I was planning to use shredded paper, but after visiting Egluntine's lovely ladies I was struck by how fresh Aubiose stays, so bought a bail. Inexpensive and looks like it will last a long time ! tania
Just to confuse the issue I use a mixture of straw and shredded paper now but will go on to Auboise in the winter when and run will go onto a hard standing
thewhitehouse
I use shavings with a layer of straw on top and sometimes paper shreddings when I have them (although they seem to get damp). When I run out I'll get aubiose 'cos everyone recommends it. I've seen it at our local equine store.
Plum
Hemcore is perfect and you're not even considering it. Put auboise as its the same.
Kalu
oops sorry Plum Are hemcore and auboise brand names for the same thing?

Blackrocksrock
Shredded paper for me too - not in the poll though
atsw
Are hemcore and auboise brand names for the same thing?Yes Hemcore is the british version You'll also find a very similar product to those two called Easibed. I use straw in the nestbox and Auboise on the floor of the Walk-in-Run. Andrew
jomaxsmith
I lied and said Aubiose but actually I'm currently using Miscanthus straw and prior to that Easibed. Both are cheaper than the hemp products although the Easibed is not composting well (hence trying out miscanthus) I tried shredded newspaper but it got stuck to the eggs and left print on them Jo
Stevie
I use straw both in the nestbox and in the run too.It might not be as absorbant, but because air can circulate through it-droppings go dry and has a wonderful summery, farmyard smell too! Barkisland
Hemcore is British and Aubiose is French. I would use Hemcore if I could get it, backing British farmers and all that, but no-one seems to stock it locally So I use Aubiose instead.
