I like quirk, he wants straight

I like unusual names as much as anyone, but poor Quirk and Straight would have quite a hard time at school, don't you think? :D

P.S. I wondered if you were a Bronwen, Bronze - my niece is a Bronwyn and a Bronze, Bronzey and not forgetting The Bronzoid.

Ha ha!!!

I like Joseph but only because if we had another boy after my son (who was always going to be Charlie) it would have been Joseph.

My son and daughter are named after my grand-parents and I like the names (which helps  ).

I always say that as women we should get to decide the first names as go through a lot of trouble to have the baby - they can get to choose middle name (and them only if its nice and I made them choose it  ).

Obviously Bogwoppit isn't his real name!

Why 'obviously' - it's a perfectly nice name? :D

With your, er, interesting imagination, Looney, you surely MUST be able to help me with choosing my cat's name? (OOooh, sorry though for hijacking the thread, Bronze, . I'm getting desperate, we're up to two names a day now, up from one a week, then one a day, so I hope you'll forgive me).

Names for pets are difficult.... apart from fish as there are plenty of comedy names and as you don't have to shout down the garden for a fish it doesn't really matter how daft the name is!

If I had a cat I would call it Elsie Mauser. No idea why but I would! :D

I went for Joseph but I like Joel to, they are lovely names.

I have no idea how you decide what to name your child my Oh and I cant even agree on possibles, I like unusual but not strange names no sun, sea or starfish for me thanks, but neither do you want your child to be one of a number with the same name.

I was the only Ruth in both my schools and my grandparents fell out with my mum because I wasnt named after someone in the family  which is precisely why she called me Ruth in the first place. I must admit I hated my name in school but I really like it now.

So good luck with the decision.

I voted for Elijah, but I like the others too. having John as middle name means he can use that if he prefers. My YS is called Ethan, Oliver, Noah. I wanted to call him Noah but bottled it at the last minute. YS says he is glad I did!!! When he was born 17 years ago Ethan was fairly uncommon over here. I went for a straightforward second name just in case. He has always been happy with the choice. In fact OS still says he wished it was his name!!!

I voted for Joseph, but of course he may not suit the name.

My son was premature and we were caught on the hop with our choices. He was unnamed for ten whole days, poor little mite, because the names we 'tried him in' just weren't right. He really suits the name we settled on, although my Mum didn't like it.

My daughter has a supremely simple name, four letters total, two of those repeated and people still ask me to spell it. Gah!

Good luck with the birth. Could be anytime now!!!

Joseph and Joel are my favourites.

Not sure about Elijah but I do like "Eli". Think he may end up spelling out his name every day on the phone.......

It's an age thing, but Gideon for me, is a small bible left in hotel rooms. Just can't get that out of my head. But then I'm 40 now and younger folk won't have that association.

Don't listen to us lot, go with what you like best yourself.

Aha!!!!

T'was one of my own for future reference. DH persuaded me to stop at two though!!

Great choice imho!

When I picked YS name(earlier post) my father declared that he would not be able to call him by that name! A friend however, found him a reference to the the name being that of a wise man somewhere in the Old Testament and then dad decided that it was ok and that he would 'learn' to use it!!!!
