Hemcore gone bust

Recommended Posts

I've just been reading our monthly list of companies who have gone down the pan, and noticed that Hemcore are on the list.

I remember a supply problem a couple of months ago when no-one seemed to be able to find it, but hadn't realised that it had a real problem. I think that Aubiose has been the market leader for some time now though and always seems to be more widely available.

Aubiose is a French company and the distribution rights in the UK are owned by a large English company, so they ought to be OK.

well that's a shame, hemcore is a great product, but I could rarely get it!

Doing some delving, I get the impression that this has been a long time coming, so that's probably why you've not been able to find it. A couple of 'horsey' people I know have commented that they hadn't seen it recently too.

That's such a shame! Although I prefer the texture of Aubiose, I love the fact that Hemcore has citronella in it. When I had a choice (which depended on availability) I tended to use Hemcore in the summer (when I needed the fly repellancy) and Aubiose in the winter.

What a shame.

The Hemcore company is somewhere round here and I read in the local paper about it going bust. Apparently the bedding is a by product of its main business, which is, or was, supplying the construction industry and its the downturn there that has caused the problem.

I paid £9 a bale for some from my usual place last week and they said they are having a lot of difficulty with supply for all of the horse bedding products.

Noticed that our supplier still had a few bales of Hemcore left over the weekend and were hoping for another delivery this week.

They said that the move to bigger premises, which caused the problems of supply last year, had cost millions and the credit crunch hit them hard. Their oppinion was that Hemcore had funds secured for the expansion, but then the Banks went into melt down mode and the money was no longer available.

So sorry to see a company like Hemcore fold, they had a wonderful product, we'll miss them :(

Apparently they have gone into administration, which means that administrators have been appointed to find the best deal for shareholders etc.

This could mean closing it down completely, but they will see first if they can arrange for another company to buy it or there could be a management buyout by people inside the company. Let's hope it's one of the latter two options. In the meantime, the company will continue its services - if at all possible.

My daughter is an accountant and has been involved in administration. At age 25, she had to close down a toy company which could not be rescued - sacking staff who'd been there for years, reading meters, turning off the utilities and locking up - all by herself. Very stressful for everyone.
