The Dogmother
I've just been reading our monthly list of companies who have gone down the pan, and noticed that Hemcore are on the list. I remember a supply problem a couple of months ago when no-one seemed to be able to find it, but hadn't realised that it had a real problem. I think that Aubiose has been the market leader for some time now though and always seems to be more widely available. Aubiose is a French company and the distribution rights in the UK are owned by a large English company, so they ought to be OK.

Cooks
well that's a shame, hemcore is a great product, but I could rarely get it!
The Dogmother
well that's a shame, hemcore is a great product, but I could rarely get it! Doing some delving, I get the impression that this has been a long time coming, so that's probably why you've not been able to find it. A couple of 'horsey' people I know have commented that they hadn't seen it recently too.
redfrock
I had 3 bales delivered 2 weeks ago by my feed supplier, It was over £1 cheaper per bale than the Aubiose. Such a shame to see another British company bite the dust
Seagazer
That is a shame.
crazygal
What a shame, I preferred it to Aubiose, but I couldn't find it so the last two bales had to be aubiose instead. Thanks for posting that Claret, I'll not bother looking out for it anymore.
Egluntyne
That is a shame. Aubiose will fly off the shelves then, and go up in price.
feemcg
I haven't been able to get it for ages, so went on to Easi-bed. I prefer it now anyway as less dusty.
WitchHazel
That's such a shame! Although I prefer the texture of Aubiose, I love the fact that Hemcore has citronella in it. When I had a choice (which depended on availability) I tended to use Hemcore in the summer (when I needed the fly repellancy) and Aubiose in the winter. What a shame. The Dogmother
You can always sprinkle a mix of citronella and eucalyptus oils on yours - that's what I do.
Cooks
I am using 'bliss' at the moment as a trial and that has eucalyptus added, made hubby sneeze his head off, I was most amused
Yorkshire Pudding
I had to buy Nedz bed last time. What a shame.
Ain't Nobody Here
That is a shame - I liked Hemcore (and did actually get some last time I went to my horsey place ). RIP Hemcore
Jules.
There was none at the horsey place I went to today, but loads of Nedsbed.
Tessa the Duchess
That is a shame A couple of years ago I saw a documentary about the Hemcore Co saying how well they were doing as Hemcore was being used quite widely in the insulation of new houses. I guess the big slow down in house building due to the recession has taken it's toll on them Tessa
quinlan
Think they had a problem with a lack of hemp growers too. They were looking for farmers recently and the government were offering a grant per hectare. Ah... if only I had loads of land!
Shirl
What a shame but we use Sundown Yellow because it's cheaper. It was a company very local to me before they moved warehouse.
cathybc
what a shame - I too prefer it to auboise and it makes my garage smell nice! I might ring my local supplier to see if they have any left....
Chook n Boo Mum
I've just been & picked some up from my local lovely supplier, she says the price is going up on Monday 7.95 to 8.20 a bale. She seemed surprised when I said they had gone bust...... Sha x

Rona
The Hemcore company is somewhere round here and I read in the local paper about it going bust. Apparently the bedding is a by product of its main business, which is, or was, supplying the construction industry and its the downturn there that has caused the problem. I paid £9 a bale for some from my usual place last week and they said they are having a lot of difficulty with supply for all of the horse bedding products. Aga n Chickens
Noticed that our supplier still had a few bales of Hemcore left over the weekend and were hoping for another delivery this week. They said that the move to bigger premises, which caused the problems of supply last year, had cost millions and the credit crunch hit them hard. Their oppinion was that Hemcore had funds secured for the expansion, but then the Banks went into melt down mode and the money was no longer available. So sorry to see a company like Hemcore fold, they had a wonderful product, we'll miss them
Patricia W
Apparently they have gone into administration, which means that administrators have been appointed to find the best deal for shareholders etc. This could mean closing it down completely, but they will see first if they can arrange for another company to buy it or there could be a management buyout by people inside the company. Let's hope it's one of the latter two options. In the meantime, the company will continue its services - if at all possible. My daughter is an accountant and has been involved in administration. At age 25, she had to close down a toy company which could not be rescued - sacking staff who'd been there for years, reading meters, turning off the utilities and locking up - all by herself. Very stressful for everyone. Tricia
