stoice Posted May 13, 2009 Share Posted May 13, 2009 Said goodbye to my beautiful Black Rock, Betty yesterday. She been getting thin over the past few weeks despite the ample mealworms and goodies on offer and being wormed. I'm not sure if it's because she was losing condition that she was picked on by my other 3 girls or being picked on made her ill. Anyway, the pecking got worse and on monday they had badly pecked her vent area making it bleed. I separated her, cleaned up her botty - it looked really bad, looked like they may have also got to part of her insides too, there were clots and bruises too. She spent the night in the garage in a cat basket on a warm towel. She seemed perky ish in the morning so OH let her out on the lawn for some grass and time away from the other girls. My OH didn't want to worry me at work too much but he told me later that she she looked more depressed as the day went on, wouldn't even eat a grape (VERY unlike her!). Vets booked for as soon as I get home. She couldn't pass an egg or poop properly so the vet and I agreed the kindest thing was to let her go. Vet said even if he tried to anesthatise (sp?) her and help the egg out he wasn't sure she'd come round as she was so weak. Bless her. My poor Betty. Quite shocked it was her that went first.
