Is your dog's unusual barking a secret code for something mysterious?

Hubby found her dead in the cube nestbox this morning. She was our beautiful white leghorn & laid the most gorgeous china white eggs. Her comb was so big, it was like a bonnet. She will be greatly missed.

 

Yesterday, her tail was down & I thought it unusual. Later in the day, there was a soft egg shell in the run & her poos were just like egg white. We let her out to free range the garden with her friends, but she was very slow. She later passed the other half shell of the soft egg. It obviously did not do her insides any good.She did perk up for sweetcorn & lettuce - but she went to bed quite early. She has laid none stop since she first came into lay. We have had an egg every day - so she wore herself out.

She was about 2 and a half years old.

Hubby is now wondering whether to get 2 more chooks for the cube, as he loved Smartie the leghorn & wants another.

Poor Rolo & Bounty know that their friend has gone - they are so quiet today & I'm not expecting them to lay today. Poor loves - just going to let them out in the garden, to take their minds off Smartie.
