Omlet good vibes needed! NEW UPDATE - interview done!

Recommended Posts

I've applied for an internally advertised post so I need good vibes that I'm asked for interview next Thursday!

I've only been here since September and it may be considered a bit high level for me but its something I could easily do. My last job would have seen me going for AST this year but I couldn't stand working in that place/department so I left. The job I have now was a step down, I'm second in department and I really should have hung on for a head of department or another AST posistion but I had to get out of there for my sanity (my HOD was a dodgy dealer, my name was on assessments that I wasn't happy about, 2 of my colleagues were trying to stick the knife in at every turn).

I'd hoped to see my career progressing to an AST role with responsiblity for staff training. My background is in training and I am a natural mentor. The role I have applied for is to oversee new staff in training positions and staff induction with the possiblity of leading us to becoming a training centre. It is exactly what I want but it's as a senior teacher - I'm not sure if I would be really considered leadership material this early in my career. Also I'm not sure the current post holder thinks a lot of me but then again its hard to tell as she is rather unapproachable and blunt speaking so "Ooops, word censored!"ody thinks they are ever right when they speak to her.

I've been teaching since 2002 when I was a GTP myself. I've taken on responsiblity since my NQT year but for the past 2 years I feel as if I@ve moved backwards - taking this job actually meant a drop in salary and TBH as second in department the most I've had to do is take minutes at a few meetings. I'm bored. I've done more than this EVERY years since my NQT year, 2 years ago I had no Head of department and ended up doing all sortss, whilst co-ordinating 2 key stages and taking specialist school responsibilities.

Given the application letter I put in I would be surprised not to get an interview, I've run degree programmes, done extensive mentoring at all levels, assessed portfolios, worked on recruitment and induction programmes, done loads of training needs analysis all of which would be excellent in this role.

Today I've "counted my chickens before my eggs have hatched" and bought a killer interview suit and some new shoes that are more suitable than any I have (the heels are a good 2 inches lower than my favourite platforms!!!). The role itself is me but what do I need to bring to being a "senior teacher" and worthy of a place on SLT?

One thing I'm sure will help is lucky Omlet vibes though!

ooooh, good luck

GTP is the Graduate Trainee Programme for Teachers, similar to PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) but you work in a school and go out to train (PGCE you go to train and then do a placement at a school)

AST is an Advanced Skills Teacher, this means that you are good :D

I think you will be fab for the job, fingers, toes, paws and wings crossed up norf for you :D

Thanks all - no word yet application deadline was 10am today. I know at least one other person (from my department!) has applied for this one. "Ooops, word censored!"ody has heard anything about any of the jobs that have been advertised.

OK my interview is confirmed for Thursday. I have to give a 10 min presentation to the Head, a senior teacher and a governor as well as the interview.

Preparing a 10 minute presentation should take up most of the next 2 days - good job I barely have to teach!!!

Thanks for all the vibes - I'm feeling them working.
