Chickvic
Had 2 e-mails from MBNA saying our account had been suspended and enclosing a link. DH checked this with the official MBNA site and found they were identical except for the size of the font on the log-in section. Don't actually know if this is a scam but when he went through the official site there was no mention of the account being suspended. Just a warning to anyone out there to be careful and log-in in the normal way and not via the e-mail!
Old Speckled Hen
If you hover, without clicking on, over the link that these phishing emails give you it will reveal the real address which is always different ... usually somewhere abroad. Geoid
It is a scam, thats how phishing works, they send you a link to what seems to be the official site (it has to look the part too) you enter in your details, the website grabs your details and some dogey people get full access to your bank account. Most banks never send emails regarding your bank account, if it was suspended they would send you a letter or phone you up or something like that. Cooks
beware though, there are dodgy people on the phone too that try to get your details. If it's genuinely your bank they will already know those details.
Valkyrie
The other day our "bank" called and OH answered it. I heard him say "you phoned me, so I'm not confirming my details with you" and he put the phone down. He said they asked for his address and phone number - odd because they already had the phone number . I am getting messages from all sorts of banks I never heard of before. I love the way they say warning re your account. What account? Proper banks and building societies don't have a contact - they give you details of rate changes etc, and you go to your own records for the addresses should you need to contact them. I recognise them now and delete them immediately.
Lewis
When I registered with the bank they said they would never send am email out and not to respond to them.
Ain't Nobody Here
I get regular bogus emails from all kinds of banks & building societies, most of whom I don't even have an account with . I block them all but they always come back with a slightly different name . Some of them are so amateurish I can't believe people are fooled .
