jlo
....but I'm getting a bit fed up now! OK - yesterday was the hassle with the car getting broken into. Today, one of our gates has fallen down. It was hit by a builder's van last week and has been a bit dodgy since but I have just tried to shut it and it completely collapsed. Whilst heaving it out of the drive and trying to sort out another way of keeping the chooks from escaping, DD came in to tell me that there were thousands of ants in the utility room. Boy, she wasn't kidding. There is obviously a nest underneath there somewhere and the *"(*!$% things are flying and swarming and......yuck!!! Better get back in there to see if the raid has done the trick!

Raina
Sorry to hear of all your bad luck. You could have always put the chooks in the room with the ants
CluckyBucks
I usually pour boiling water over ants nests if there is one near the house, it seems to do the trick for a few months, but i agree with the previous post... RELEASE THE CHICKEN'S FURY AMONGST THE VILE INSECT!!! Sorry to hear about all your bad luck, hope things brighten up for you xx xx
jlo
Sorry to hear of all your bad luck. You could have always put the chooks in the room with the ants I did consider this!! I have blasted them with spray and have just been vacuuming up the corpses and am feeling decidedly itchy. (Mind you that could be the "little friends" that DD and I seem to have trouble getting rid of at the moment!! Actually I am feeling a bit guilty about starting this post! I have just been thinking about the awful time that Shirl is having and it is putting my tiny woes into perspective! Helly Welly
Swarming ants are awful. Once, when i were a lass, i was on my own in my parents house watching tv and i could here this creaking. I got up to look at the front door and it was completely covered in flying ants, as well as the walls, floor and ceiling. I screamed a bit, shook a lot and then went mad with the fly spray. I then waited outside for my younger sister to come home and deal with them. They were all dead and just needed hoovering up. I can still picture it now, and hear the creaking Now, if i find ants in the garden i set the chooks on them. They especially love the eggs. Cinnamon
Ants - *shudder* We came home from holiday once to a (large) kitchen full, & I mean really full, of them Took us hours to clean up - then we went upstairs to find the gift of a dead blue tit the cat had left for us on our bed, feathers everywhere It might be small stuff jlo, but it all adds up, doesn't it? Blackrocksrock
Believe it or not Frontline spray contains fipronil which kills ants and is prob cheaper in the long term if you use it for cats and dogs too. I had clothes moths and also used it in the bottom of the built in wardrobe and it has done the trick - I had nothing else and was 20 miles from nearest open supermarket at the weekend. I do so hate any of these creepy crawlies full stop.

Lewis
Dettol is meant to kill ants and you can use it on kitchen surfaces etc
Valkyrie
Oh dear - I can't help thinking "infamy . . . "! Did you remember to say "white rabbits" the other day? Other than that I think when I drive past your house I will steer near the middle of the road! Actually that might be a bad idea - I might hit one of those trees and it will fall on your house - perhaps I'd better take the long way round instead! Well I suppose it's the third and final upset. I hope it ends there - you sound so indignant I can almost hear the huffing! I think you need a big hug now.
