Father in law in hospital.*Sad update*

Recommended Posts

He is not a well man at all. He was so yellow today & struggling to breathe even with an oxygen mask on. He's had blood transfusion & will have some more I think tomorrow. His urine is soooo dark & his blood almost black. Ugh.

The registrar took us in the relatives room & said that he has a severe infection. There is a slim chance that he will pull through it - but if he does he will be very weak. If he goes into cardiac arrest, they will not resusitate him - as they said it would be cruel.

If he doesn't respond to these new antibiotics, then it will be a matter of days before he slips away.

So sad.

What was odd was when we were in the relatives room - a white dove landed on the window sill & wanted to come in through the slightly open window. Both me & hubby saw it - my sister in law didn't. We just looked at each other - as hubby knows I am susceptible to odd happenings. Another strange thing was when I kissed my father in law goodbye - he said under his breath ' bless you'. :? Only to me, not to the others. He never says that normally. I just found both things a bit odd.

Emma - take comfort from the smallest of things - the dove - I personally (as an orphan at 30) think these are sent for a reason.

Talk to you FIL he will know you are there - even if the drs say not.

I send hugs and understanding - pm if you want to chat. I hope your next visit may be more positive - the human body can surprise us.

I had a hard job trying to get my father and uncle to believe that my stepmother could stll hear us - I had to take them to one side and ask them not to speak over her bed as if she'd already died or was about to :(

Right until the very end, there was a slight movement in just one finger - a deliberate movement - and I knew she could hear as she responded when I asked her questions. It will be very comforting for your FIL to hear voices he knows.

Good news is - his kidneys were working a bit better yesterday & he was able to have his scan. We are just hoping & praying that the new antibiotics are working & that the scan doesn't show anything nasty. He had been moved onto the respiratory ward - it's a lot nicer & the staff are wonderful at looking after him & keeping him comfortable. They have even given us special visiting rights - so we can visit whenever - not just at set visiting time.

We can't really get there though today. Sister in law is going & a good friend of his.

It's not good - the scan has showed up all sorts of lesions etc all over his body.

He was also very confused today, as he doesn't even remember having the scan yesterday & was mixed up with what day it was. This is the man that is soooo clever & normally has all his marbles. :(

They are wanting to now do biopsies - but my SIL was so dazed & upset that she forgot to ask a lot of important questions like biopsies from where etc.

We are all going tomorrow. I think he may be moving to a hospice sort of place next week. His breathing is still dependant on the oxygen mask. I also don't know how his body is responding to the antibiotics.

We were sort of expecting the worst I suppose & we all feel absolutely drained with it all.

I think I will notice a big difference in him when I visit tomorrow.
