Our new girls are here - hope we can keep them safe!

Recommended Posts

Okey dokey - on Friday morning we lost our three beloved Omlet hens to a fox - our fault for leaving the egg port door open :shameonu:

On Saturday I was not having any more chickens (after losing the plot at Asda trying to decide which shop eggs to buy!!) and the Eglu was going on Ebay.

Yesterday we went to "have a look" at some more hens and ended up coming away with............FOUR new ones!!

So...we have:

1 x Merrydale Blue (Morag)

1 x Merrydale Ranger (Agnes)

1 x Merrydale Sweetie (Haggis)

1 x Merrydale Sussex (Mittens)

(Named in honour of our Scottish friends who have been with us this weekend!!)

They seem to be settling ok and although Mr Fox came back last night (paw prints and new scratches on the Eglu) they are fine this morning, eating and drinking well.

This means we now have to obtain an extension/converter thing for the run and quick! They are rather expensive brand new so will be keeping my eye out on Ebay and on the recyling section on here (will also pop a post on the "wanted" section).

Lets hope we can keep these girls safe this time. Long live the chickenses!!

Congratulations, they sound wonderful.

I must admit Ginger is away getting better from a respiratory infection as I don't have anywhere to keep her separate from the rest at home; I miss her a lot even though we have only had them for a week, it's amazing how quick you get attached to them.

The pen is not the same without her :(

I hope they all settle in well and enjoy a happy life, I am glad you have got some more :D

I've got one for sale at the moment. I'm not near you, but have friends who live near Merrydale, so could get it near there fairly easily, if that's any help?
