Quilt Piccies

Recommended Posts

I know you've been waiting - have been trying, but the computer kept freezing on me.

Finally the pineapple. I'm afraid the wind wasn't helping and the sun kept shining when I wanted it to hide behind the cloud.

Close up of the block. The centre was a fussy cut rose - there were several different ones which I used. The quilting was in the ditch - not every single piece though otherwise the rosey centres wouldn't have stood out so much. The colours are a little bit stronger than in the photo.

This is the one on our bed - the colours have faded in the sunlight on OH's side (my side is still perfect, cough cough  )

Close up of the centre - it is made of tiny floral fabrics. The quilt is "Trip Around the World" but I should call it "Kerry Goes Mad in Florida" - which is where I became a fabricaholic and bought all those different ones.

This is one for DS which I am in the middle of quilting made of huge triangles with a starry theme.

I have more if you would like to see them or close ups of the quilting.

Thanks everyone - what an ego boost!

Well here are a couple more:

Curved log cabin - I can't find my cream fabric to complete it - bah humbug - it's around here somewhere.

Then my first attempt to make a quilt for DD. I think it will have to be called "Numerous Ways How Not to do Patchwork" - so eventually it all ties in, but then she gets a double bed.

And finally (for the time being) DD's patchwork that had to be undone and then I had to complete it. I think it will be a big cushion cover eventually.

So now I have to do my chores.

You can't see the rubbishy bits that I have done! Perseverance and confidence you need young BRR. I did manage to find a teacher - which was very good. My patchworking buddy is coming over on Friday and I am going to attempt to teach her how to applique. Fingers crossed - I shall be working on my old notes though.

If you can, try and get on a course that does some beginners stuff. The one I went to covered the very things that you are afraid of - basic blocks, triangles, curves (now I really don't like those) and applique. It was held over 2 weeks (2 lessons about 3 hours long).

Sadly the lady has given up, so there isn't anywhere near here that I know of, but I think I have learnt most of it (apart from the other things like sashiko(?) or trapunto. It's just practice now. And "Quilting for Dummies" book has helped somewhat! Quiltmaking by Hand (Jinny Beyer) is very good. The Sampler Quilt by Lynne Edwards is also good. Then I rather like the books by Susan Teegarden Dissmore - very inspirational. You could try machine paper piecing - that's interesting (Carol Doak), another one I like is Judy Martin for s"Ooops, word censored!"s and log cabin (now that is a "WOW" book - all the pretty log cabin quilts). And to put you off completely an applique book which is soooo gorgeous "Little Brown Bird" by Margaret Docherty!

I love those quilts. I want some. I want two for the lounge, one for each of the beds and at least one spare

Er I might be quite some time - DD's was started about 8 years ago! OH said she'll be married by the time I get to complete it.

And Snowy, I'm afraid I'm not an MQ yet  - you can't see the awful machine quilting that I have done - then I got to the stage when I said "pooh (well the air was a bit more blue than that) I'm not unpicking it again" Followed by my usual bah humbug with embellishments.

I am actually rubbish with the sewing machine - I find the hand sewing much more accurate, but it is a bit more time consuming. Machine really knocks the quilts up quickly, but then you can sit in the car waiting while doing a couple of blocks by hand. Rotary cutters are brilliant - the starry triangles, pineapple and log cabin were all done by that method and it's so quick.

Thank you for the nice comments everyone. If I can do it so can you. :D

Wow Koojie they are wonderful :clap::dance: . I think my favourite is the blue and yellow stars as well. Your pinenapple one is gorgeous and makes me want to snuggle it. You have some of my fabrics in it. Love the round the world one too, fabrics are yum and you've made it beautifully. Doesn't matter if you have to do a bit of reverse sewing and embellishing it all adds to its interest, and we all do it :lol:

Thank you for sharing, I just love looking at quilts and WIPs. :D any more, what about those UFO's hiding away

 I have some blocks that I have been sorting into an order. Lots of fabric collections with a quilt in mind - it's just getting down to it with some "me" time - because when I do take a time out session all hell lets loose and a hurricane blows through the kitchen and pretty much everywhere else. I suppose you could say "Hurricane Family"!
