Change in spelling??

Recommended Posts

I've used a few different names over the years.....

Back in the '80's on CB radio I was Penguin

Then when I was first spending a lot of time online I used Compuserve and spent a LOT of time in "Worlds Away" where I was "Like to have been a penguin"

Then somehow I ended up penguinmad

I do use KathrynE in some places though!

I'd almost forgotten some of the great regional accents and odd pronounciations of words...it's odd how just one letter change can make all the difference in how you say something :D

Oh well, I'm just off to work this morning, I'm starting at Kaiangaroa, then moving on to Rerewhakaaitu.....don't worry, I'm not expecting anyone to have a go at trying to pronounce them, good old Maori names both.

I remember your old username Cinnamon  . I've changed mine a couple of times in the past, but am quite happy with the one I've got now, I reckon I'm reasonably anonymous over here, especially since hardly anyone's heard of Omlet round here.

So who's had the same username for the longest  . My guess is Lesley :D

Nope, no worries - Hull or Ull it is here too. :) Or is it Ooll? DD can do a brilliant Staffordshire accent. OH likes to think he can do a Yorkshire one (he can't  ), I'll stick with the Wessex pirate style - or Bristol accent because there are enough of them in the family to tease with our impersonations! Trouble is, once you get used to the accent you forget to go back to normal (did I say normal??? what a strange word!).

I'm with Lesley - have to change the way I "say" it now. Or maybe not cos I'm an Essex burd and we dont say nuffink proper round here.

The school I work at is called Beauchamps. We have it on good authority that it should be pronounced "Beechams" but of course we pronounce it "bowshamps". All I can say is thank goodness it's not in sarfend.

Still Eglu teen to me!

She's Eglun-teen to me still :D

I thought I was remembering incorrectly too, but had noticed Egluntine's change :D

Whilst on the pronounciation of place names how would you say Bosham and Cosham.........

Sha x

Oooooo...can I have a guess Sha :wink::wink::roll::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Well no-one else is so you can if you like...is it cheating if you are local :lol: ?!

Sha x

It was years before I learnt that Cosham wasn't pronounced Cosham :roll::lol:

I think Lesley went by a different name when she first joined?

Claret maybe?

Yes, I started off as Lesley&Carl - but Carl didn't want any of my drivel associated with him  I changed it to Lesley quite early on though.

I know Bozum quite well

We have a village nearby called Beausale.......any offers? :D

It's like the pronunciation of Shrewsbury. I go absolutely nuts over the way news reporters pronounce it "Shrowsbury" NO it's Shrews Bury. Grrrr. Sorry rant over - that's a pet hate here :D:D

depends if you're welsh or english

There was summat on the telly about this not so long ago, and the upshot was it depended which side of the river you lived on.
