Snowy
Well there she was enjoying a walkies when her Mum had a brainwave - all this walking is good thinking time! Anyway, I got thinking about last weekend when Candy decided to try to cross Rutland Water without the aid of a boat, and got rather cold and wet in the process. Then we had the rolling in a dead fish followed by the drive home with all the car windows open and the children complaining loudly about the cold and the smell Several hours later and we have a solution - the Candy Cosy! "Maybe if I don't look at her she won't see how stupid I look" "I'll try sitting on her knee instead - then she can't take a picture!" "OK I give in but I still think I look stupid - I am so NOT going to smile for her!" Poor dog, doesn't she look badly done too? The coat is an old towel folded in two and stitched to a fleece backing, with velcro on the tabs. I thought it would be useful to take if we go anywhere with water again, so when she gets in the car, the car is protected and she gets warm and dry. She will thank me for it one day! Redwing
Ace! she doesnt look as happy as she does in the first pic though Our dog is always rolling in fox poo, once or twice we have driven home with him wrapped in a blanket fastened together with sellotape - your solution looks much better! Ziggy
What a great idea Snowy I love Candy's 'I can't believe the things you make me do' expression... you are right, she'll be grateful some day
Lesley
Brilliant!! I was hoping you'd bring Candy with you when you called in yesterday - you could have let her do some modelling to see what Jazz thought

fluffyknickers
That is brilliant - she looks gorgeous! I want one but not clever enough to make one - youll have to make and sell them. Worse to date for Yogy is when we were on holiday in the caravan in Kent and we went on a walk through fields where there are cows (they werent in the field) yogy was running with his girlfriend (a little girl lhasa) and decided it would really impress her to roll around in the cow poo and wee where it had made a huge puddle by the eating/drinking troughs. HE STANK!!! It was shocking. We got back to the campsite and only thing was to put him in the kids tiny paddling pool to wash him - he was NOT happy - will find a pic! He still stank for weeks! The Dogmother
Lovely! Ruby has something similar, I will try to take pictures of it; it's made of fleece and she wears it when it is cold and she's needed a bath. Being a lurcher, she has a thin coat and no body fat, so gets cold easily.
Laura & CTB
That's a great idea - and it's definitely her colour

The Dogmother
Snowy, I can't find that picture of Ruby in her coat and she's asleep at the moment, so won't thank me for waking her up to model it. Here's a dog in something similar though http://i749.photobucket.com/albums/xx135/myfismummy/cotswold054ed.jpg (I have removed the img tags as it's quite a big photo) Ruby's is red with multicoloured edging around the head and armholes. Sunshine
Ooo that is such a clever idea. I'd much rather make one than buy one too. A lady at my dog training has got one of her dogs a coat made from an unused bit of horse rug (usually the bit they throw away after cutting out the rug shape). It looks really nice and apparantly draws out the moisture of the coat if its wet and then keeps the dog dry if it starts to rain. I'm now thinking Lola needs a jacket to wear Wonder whether i can steal an old towel from the airing cupboard and attempt to make something similar to your lovely coat. Snowy
Thanks all! It's not a new invention by any means - I saw a pic of a dog in something similar and thought what a good idea it was (a bit similar to the one in Clarets pic). But whatever I see, I always asssume there is a way to make it myself It was very simple. I used a standard bath towel, folded in half, and cut a piece of fleece to the same size. Made a cut out semi circle for the neck then stitched all three layers together, leaving a gap for turning. Turn fabric right side out and slip stitch the gap closed. I just then made some tabs of surplus fleece, but you could use any fabric s"Ooops, word censored!"s, and stitched one end to the coat, and velcro to the other end to create fasteners. A word of warning - my sewing machine did not like the layers of fleece and towelling! The initial around the edge bit was OK, but it really protested at sewing on the flaps and velcro so I had to do that by hand!
fluffyknickers
this was the cow poo and wee day. This was the second dunking after we tried washing him in a small paddling pool. he really wasnt happy! Your design is brilliant - think I will ask my mum to get making! Seagazer
Fantastic photos - she looks so lovely in the first photo and then you can tell she's embarrassed in the last couple Might I add that my sister and I had similar things for the beach about 40 years ago! They were lovely and kept us very warm.
The Dogmother
I'm not one for over-bathing a dog, but Rubes is always rolling in something unsavoury so the ketchup comes out to deodorise the smell, then a shower, so she gets to wear her 'dressing gown' a fair amount now that it's colder. Chook n Boo Mum
this was the cow poo and wee day. You're lucky he's a tiddler & fits in the tub trug...can't see my labs sitting in one of those We used to bath DS in a muck bucket (like a rigid tub trug) as he didn't like the bath at one stage Snowy, I made a similar coat for one of our old girls who moulted all her hair out & it never re-grew...suncream in the summer, fleece coat in the winter Sha x
